Allied WWII experiment and 'what if' 1946 aircrafts
#52

Although I prefer a/c that actually flew I'm interested in these alternative aircraft powerplants. We already have rocketplanes.. so why not nuclear or steam?

What if Besler steam plane had gone into production and entered early ww2 as armed variant?

9-cyl steam radial if you wonder what it would sound like Tongue

Other madcap scheme was the nuclear powered aircraft (and most think that germans had the most crazy ideas  ). I think only X-6/NB-36H would be the only fitting in '46.. hardly.

Last is more conventionally powered a/c.. but I think it's the most crazy one 8)
Submersible aircraft... or is that flying submarine?
