The MkXIV was probably left out because Oleg was still regarding Il2 as an Eastern Front sim, with a touch of western Front expansion just for kicks, he added a 1946 fantasy too for more kicks. Pacific Fighters is a whole new dimension but that is its own subject. But concentrating on the Eastern Front emphasis Il2 always had, in the Battle of Berlin there were relatively few MkXIV Spits. During 1944-45 the prominent numbers in RAF squadrons over Europe were still MkIX and even LF MkV. Then there are Mustangs and Tempests...
The Soviets used the LF MkV and MkIX but even the latter didn't see any action, they were sent to Moscow and used in comparative tests against new Soviet planes.
It is really the AAA site which opened up a whole new series of wonderfully detailed campaign maps extrapolating western Europe, the Mediterranean and other important locations for an expanded, total WW2 flight sim. Since then of course the MkXIV has been sorely missed.
I think the MkXVI too has a place, since most built were cut down fuselage and clipped wing fighter-bombers, it is still a unique and beautiful looking addition to the current Spitfire lineup, it's just that much easier it uses the MkIX flight modelling.
Good for you vanir!
I've definitely thought the MK II Spit was a needed addition to the sim.
