The flare thing sounds great.

Your idea sounds good too, but I think a hole other level of programming may have to go into it.
As for the gear/flaps sticking on planes; believe it or not, I have actually had my plane shot up to the extent that my gear had to be lowered manually because it would not come down regularly. I believe it was the P-47 I had that happen in. I know the F4Fs have manual gear, I wasn't talking about them.
So many things we do in the real world and never give it a thought. Then when we try to input it into a sim, we find how complex our minds really are.
Examples:
Wheels not down on approach. How close to the runway do you need to be for the flare to go off? Would a key press be needed first for gear to activate the landing gear flare?
Would you need to ask the tower for clearance before landing or taking off to get the flare for either?
How far into the air would the flare need to go?
How bright?
Now I'm getting into to much for my feeble mind to comprehend. I guess I'm not as complicated as I thought.
