IMO .... Your best bet is to start with a clean install of 4.08 then the Unified Installer ver 1.1 and it's patch. Once you see that is running OK then select and load other mods.
It is confusing and I notice many new to the mods are loading three or four mods in varying order. The UI solves all that and makes it very easy to load other mods. I started loading mods just before UI 1.0 was released ... prior to that it was tough to get going. Like you I had various glitches (mostly me) ... but once the UI came out it simplified everything. Game runs great and I have so many mods loaded over the UI I can't image how I played 8 years without them!
