I've flown (or tried to) many a mission with the Hurricane in that condition. She's one of the few birds that can stay in the air with that kind of damage, one of the reasons I like her so much.
I don't think that it's that the Hurricane was historically that tough, it's that the modeler who designed the Hurricane model for IL2 got really fancy with the "severe wing damage" level modeling and skinning. That is, if you were flying a Bf109 and took that much damage, you'd see an intact wing with lots of meteor craters through the wing, not a missing wing tip.
