I know that most (if not all) bomber crews, if they had wounded aboard, would shoot a flare out of a waist window to signal the ambulances, and to signal the tower so they could give the bomber priority to land first. Is there any way to implement this as a mod somehow.

The ability for all aircraft to drop flares of different colors would be welcome. Flares were used for all sorts of purposes, not just signaling priority landing. It would be a more historical, and more frame-rate friendly alternative to wing smoke in online games.
