P-47 Thunderbolt cockpit modding references and discussion

I still have to add more metal around it to fit it out properly. But I think it should fit right in no problems.

Many thanks PeterD.

Is it okay? or should we get a master on the job? (I will be pushing on doing other panel work.)

Should be careful there . 512x512 (or multiples +/-) is the norm for most skins. An odd skin size was responsible for the freeze up with the RWD-8 (suggest ask Willy to extract and check size of original)

looking good though.

The final .tga files must be a binary multiple. ie. 64x64, 128x128, 256x256 etc. 1024x1024 is the maximum though. 2048x2048 will cause problems.

cheers.

Some more pre texture renders...

More great work, Taurus. Big Grin

That will light a fire under me to get the reworked meshes to you. I do have the Left.msh in usable form but I am still working on the Right.

Hopefully the 3D converter will become a reality, if it would allow us to move parts around within an existing mesh file that would be great.

Oh I am so praying that we can get to move stuff around!!!

I need your expertise with a problem with the pit. The part that needs removing is highlighted in yellow. (I've got absolutely no idea why they even put that there in the first place?) I cannot find it so I am assuming it has something to do with the external pit modelling. Have you come across this part in your work?

Looking forward to seeing what you have come up with.

(damn those rivets are huge! gotta change that...)

Not too much to report at the moment, lots of small details and big renders ahead which takes ages, but it will be done.

Diablo, keep on being the "Devils Advocate" 8)

(Chris, my work may not be up to your expectations but at least it is an excuse to get some good flying time in!)

Cheers.

Sorry for the absence of posts lately. I have been busy with my other job. I have made some progress however.

Taurus your texture work is beautiful. Is it possible to add the cowl flap pull shown in your last post? It is missing above the our recognition switchbox.

Do you know what the red pull knob is for(looks like a choke knob) that is floating in the upper right of the original pit? I've seen some cockpit photos that don't seem to have it.

You also asked about the yellow objects on either side of the pit. I don't know, they look like hand-holds I guess. :? They would probably be easy to remove if need be.

Arrow Right now,
I have the recog. Lite switch individually meshed now and will move it to right.

My plans for radio installation on the right are still evolving. The three boxes that are currently meant to represent the radio on the original D10 are attenuators/volume controls etc. -poorly textured but are correctly placed. I'm sure Taurus could improve them greatly.

The most glaring omission in the current pit is the radio receiver/control box. Most IL2 a/c are lacking in radio instrumentation, so there are not many potential donors for parts. Planes that do have radios commonly have the older style control box with the red buttons to switch channels. The P63 does have a very nice and more modern type radio control box, but I think the older style is more correct for our project. Tonight I will pick out the best one I can find and put 'er in our pit.

There are a few other bits of radio instrumentation that would be nice to have but I will worry about those later if this goes smoothly.

The New O2 regulator is in place and looks OK but ideally I would like to install some additional plumbing in front to make it more correct.

By the end of the week I think I should have everything sorted in a sceenshot-worthy form.
