BoB releasing date ....

I've had this on order with play.com since early 2006!... pathetic. had so many release dates I believe everything they say of course
If we didn't have what we have now with a modded IL2 I'd have sacked it ages ago.. God bless all here!

However, from the interviews that I've read (and one audio call interview), Oleg Maddox and the crew at 1C: Maddox Games have a very special combat flight simulation-well worth the wait. They are adding some great features to make it the platform for " Total War " over anything else and expandable for years to come. The entire virtual envirement will be much like real life. I can hardly wait! Storm of War will become hugely popular and improvements in computers will take the experience to presently uncomprehendable detail.

Still, IL-2 will be a part of my free time for years after aquiring BOB. Thanks AAA for giving thousands of people bliss in the virtual combat world. I flew in the original IL-2 years ago, and just when IL-2 seems to be about to fade into the oblivion of history, Maddox and the modders create even more appeal-true synergy. Thank you very much, all contributors. Big Grin

I mean no disrespect or to sound negative but when it comes to this new sim and in many regards to the last one, Oleg has said quite a lot, promised a lot and basically rarely delivered. SOW may actually be all that we are hoping for but as time goes by the chances it will be a let down from all the hype increases.

I'm actually starting to theorize that the project has been canceled for some time now and Oleg and a few of his more devoted team members are trying to finish the project as a indi sim and not let on, which could be for the lack of updates and so forth. Guess we'll see since he's only got one week to deliver the promised in game screenshots and videos.

I think that, if SOW comes out, when it does, a lot of people will be disappointed, because the tendency is to have the following line of thought: "As this sim has taken so much time to be released, then it will come with a lot of stuff and no bugs at all!", but not always, and probably never the time taken for a game to be released is directly proportional to the number of features encountered in the same in cases which the game takes way too much time to be released.

You know what they say, "We'll see."

Hey, wouldn't it be funny (and plausable) that one or more of the folk at 1C: Maddox Games are visiting or perhaps participating seruptitiously at AAA.

Someone on another site said that he was suspicious of a guy corresponding from Russia who seemd to know a little TOO Much about the technicalilities of IL-2 and thought that he might be from 1C: Maddox Games. 8)

Or may be that the opposite extreme happened and an "Act of God" struck the 1C Maddox building at night destroying the source code and all the work!

Anyhow, its fun waiting and talking about the future possibilities.

For the life of me I can not understand the strict secrecy. IL2 has been out for 8 years now, and I still don't see ANY combat sim that competes with it. How can the developers think that a decent update would threaten their superiority? I still wonder if they are not fending off some sort of law suite or settlement with someone (Ubi?). Or maybe the worries of the greedy plane manufacturers are causing the info blackout. Well, what ever it is, they better have a jewel to sale.
Ones imagination can quite easily out do a computer and with no real in engine screens or vids, expectations could be very difficult to over come.

Posting I'm not sure, but it's very likely that they do access this website, I remember we do have a member in the memberlist called Oleg, but I cannot tell you if that's the real one or not.

In interviews, Oleg has stated many times that SoWBoB is being developed on a new and in some ways very different 3D engine from the last. In tinkering with 3D Studio Max a few week ago, I wondered if he was referring to that as his platform because of the version now out being able to create almost any image in motion given enough labor and resources. (Some claim any image can be created.)

Rise of Flight was very recently released and looks very good. They have a great platform for future development and the title even implies that they are planning things further in the timeline (WW2?). Can anybody see this venture influencing SoW release date? Maybe it did over two years ago when the first delay was apparent. Rise of Flight was developed not far from 1C: Maddox Games studio, after all-in Moscovy. Rumours circulate constantly in metro technical communities.

Secrecy? It might be prudent. Surely Maddox company knows more than we about the competition in the future. Some would say better safe than sorry.

Our IL-2 Patriarch Oleg Maddox wrote in an online interview a couple years ago that he gets a kick from going online annonymously to sim. Why not get a sense for what his market wants by immersion into the community? That would make good business sense to me. By annonymity, he could keep from distorting the feedback that would accur if his known presence sparked emotional responses by people online.

Thousands of people were in awe at each stage of IL-2 development, myself included. Some of the scenes truely looked like real life combat-didn't they? I'm reminded of the Holodeck in the Star Trek series. Can't you see where all this is going?
Thanks for the talk, guys-I'm enjoying this conversation...

Imagine Oleg in an online match, with his own name, and somehow proving he is himself, imagine 30 people writing in chat "oleg this..." "oleg that...", man, it would be unreadable, I can understand going anonymous on this site also.

Yes, almost any image can be created with the correct manipulating softwares and skills, but I don't believe that the screenshots he provide us are mere photoshop or something, I do believe he's done the 3D models and stuff.

As the game is being made in a whole new engine, that explains a bit of delay, but I still think this is too much delay, perhaps we will never know the real reasons behind the delays, perhaps he's going slowly, waiting for a possible competing sim because he might still be milking IL-2 (thanks to us, may I add, I bet a lot of new people bought IL-2 because of the mods).

All I hope is that SOW will have fixed things I didn't like in IL-2, and also added much more graphical and physical features, and the most important, may it be supported for years like IL-2, patches, expansion packs, a game made out of one plane only, now has a freaking huge list of airplanes, that WE helped increasing, and still are helping to increase, I hope BOB will expand to all theatres eventually.

ROF looks good but is an empty sim. Online is a pain in the rear and has only so many servers, offline there's little to offer and both are worthless when the main server goes down, which happens from time to time. The sim engine is good and could it could be a great CFS but the business model the devs put together is bass ackwards not to mention the lack of features in the (beta) release.

Who's Olegs competition? He hasn't had any for years and will remain so. Hell he could probably release the source code and nothing (competition wise) would change.

There is only speculation what is causing the delay. My last post is probably a good bet which could be the problem getting updates out as there is little to show. At this point we are getting the same update we got in May, and would probably expect the same the rest of the year.

# 1 ) Given: Though the quality of the sim work is generally good and impressive-in some ways, 1C: Maddox Games has a history of what WE perceive as being slow at new releases.

[RE: to flyingbullseye] Could that be: Our hunger for more is actually feeding this? Murilo Specht nailed it on the head and we agree. Clearly, many more downloads are bought because the whole mod community globally is creating interest and funnelling people to download V4.08, resulting in more profit and development money for 1C. But I'm wondering how does this specifically infuence new releases? Does it not depend on the will of the Oleg son of god (metaphorically) just how this effects SowBob?

# 2) Given: Only indications are that 1C: Maddox Games is still a viable company-no sign of bankruptsy or other form of collapse. Not even a rumour exists on this issue. Is this the calm before the SowBoB storm? Could this further indicate a big surprise in store for us? Is resource going into the pockets of Maddox or mosty for SowBoB?

# 3) Given: History is full of examples of huge surprises. Could it be that the lessons of the modding community has a big influence on specific features of SoWBoB development? I regress to the synergy at work between Maddox's company and the IL-2 modding world. Can it be that matters are much more integrated than we can even imagine?

Perhaps a bunch of 1C: Maddox Games people have been participating in the mod community for years. (Note to Maddox people: We would be glad. Big Grin )

Does the conspiracy hypothesis have any validity?

Maybe we are the puppets, IL-2 is the strings, 1C: Maddox Games is the string yoke, and Oleg Maddox is the puppet master?

If so, we're a group of smiley puppets :!: Big Grin

On a final thought, this week I saw a 30 second commercial on Prime Time, The History Channel, which did a nice job of advertising IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey. I hollered, "Yeah Maddox!" The innovator is still out there working. This seems to confirm to me that the Ye Old Oleg is still waging virtual war for the hearts and minds of enthusiastic fans across our globe... Our fearless leader.

"ROF looks good but is an empty sim"

If SoW doesn't look a lot better than RoF, I will be extremely disappointed. This is an example of the point I made earlier, to announce that "it will look like cinema" and follow that up with 3-4 years of no in game screen shots or vids raises expectations to a point that may have dire consequences at the time of release. I have not seen it, so I expect it to look like real life (cinema).
