For now all I've done is replace a ship, but I'm trying to understand how to add new ships by duplicating ships already there.

Maybe with adding their names and copying datas from original ones here

Files\com\maddox\il2\objects\ships.ini

And here

Files\com\maddox\il2\objects \stationary.ini

Duplicating folder with their originals .mesh part and tgas and renaming with new names here

3DO\Ships

And then naming each file that you altered, renaming, used here

Filelist.txt

If you are able to duplicate ships....then re-name the new ones...that'll be great....imagine on your mini-map or briefing map and when you pass your mouse pointer over the triangular target ...it says Kirishima instead of Generic battleship...... and you can direct players to a certain ship better

Can ship DMs be tweaked? What about globally?

I'd dearly love to see the threshhold for showing damage (smoke/fire) be reduced, and the time for the sinking animation to be grossly increased.

Right now you hit a merchant just shy of sinking it and it smokes. Usually by the time it smokes, it's already sinking. Better would be to smoke with far less damage so they look damaged faster (even if the actual DM remains unchanged and X kg of bombs still sinks it).

The sinking... instead of 90 seconds or whatever it is, how about 10 minutes? 20?
