many of these darn critters cheat more then a three handed , twelve toed midget at a card game. :x
I was mostly shocked how fast a Betty bomber can knock you out of the sky with it's 20 mm cannon. I always thought this was considered easy prey.
Obviously the way ai gunners shoot is simplified but I guess it encourages evasive measures.
And concerning the gun cam films of german planes firing from the six o clock of an enemy bomber, I think the grim truth is that the tail gunner had been knocked out. There is a famous guncamera sequence where the fighter goes in really close and the gunner doesn't react...I'm almost certain he was dead.

That was done to allow reasonable frame-rates. You also need to factor in altitude (Try it at 15000 metres).
I have actually found most of the bombers very vulnerable if you actually take the time to set up your run (and don't fly straight into the tail-gunners bullets - after he starts firing). I can easily take down two heavies (eg. B-17) and damage one in a Mig-3ud...
To add a bit more, each AAA gun is supposed to represent an entire battery of guns. (6 guns) If you're putting down six guns, then you really have 36 down there firing up at you. It was to keep FPS resonable. A lot of people don't relize this when they make maps and the AAA is past retarded.
