poor feedback here about new maps
#16

Guys, I spent several hours combing through the map bilding discussion thread and about half of the Slot WIP thread, and compiled a collection of quotes, almost in a FAQ type format, which I would be more than willing to share and even shepherd along into some sort of guide document. The only thing is I am just now learning map building, and am far from knowledgeable. So most of the editing would need to come from the masters here.

It's in MS Word format now and I would be happy to e-mail or upload it, and we can start piecing it together. Right now IMHO what it really needs is just some simple narrative - what the file format of a map folder is, what each file is/does, and how that file is made (in very basic terms). Then the collected qutes can follow. I;ve already got everything grouped in terms of which map file the advice applies to, and which subject within that map (i.e., coastlines, forests, airfields, etc.)

Good initiative. A comprehensive guide with some explanatory images will be very helpful to newcomers and even for those who are working on new maps already. I am sure it will improve the quality of mapmaking.
Maybe I am too demanding but some online tutorials would be nice too. I remember when I started to play IL-2 and went for the first time to FMB I was staring at this blue screen and didn't know what to do. I found my way through with the included guide on the disc but if I had known that there were some good online tutorials on YouTube it would have been a lot easier to master FMB.

I am looking forward to seeing it! So I can give it a try myself!
