Oleg Maddox's finalised 4.09 release
#16

Although maybe brought up in a overly bitter tone (and with a really non acceptable assault on another nation), flying spud's statement has quite some truth inside: Western allies, especially the RAF, are treated rather bad in this sim, just as the VVS was in all the WWII-aircombat simulations before (keep in mind that the Yak1 to 9 and the IL2 and were among the most produced combat aircraft of WWII, while the Po-2 was the most numerous built aircraft in history of aviation and some of the largest and airbattles took place on the eastern front). As it has been pointed out: the name of the sim originally was IL-2. Therefor I use this sim mainly to fly missions on the eastern front. Me too, I just hate it to sit in a Hurricane and get outturned (in flat, sustained turns) by a Me109f because slats (wich were used only by Messerschmitts and Lavochkins) make every high wingload airplane turn like a Fokker Triplane and my thick airfoil wing with a solid steel tube core gets shot off with just 1-2 rounds from 2cm gun while 12 7,7mm guns can't do half as much damage in 2 seconds at point blank range just because this sim obviously ignores kinetic energy and boosts the impact of explosive shells to an exagorrated level to suit VVS and Luftwaffe doctrine. I hate it just as much as I think the Italians aren't treated quite fair with their .22lr calibre airguns either, but I have learned to live with it. Now my future hopes are with modders here, with the new team that will presumabely take over from oleg and with SoW.

Cheers all and if any of you feels a need to type some insults in your answers, please reconsider other options.

First, thanks for the comments about the finalised 4.09 install and AAA mods

As I read it, it looks as though I will have to make a second installation for the final 4.09 but the current mods won't work with it until the AAA guys have sorted that out.

If they do.

And if they do perhaps they can find a way that it doesn't use nearly 2 GB of memory Confusedhock:

As for the 4.09 content I think most people realise that, apart from these latest add-ons by third party supporters of OM, it was never going to be stretched much further. Oleg is working on the new future, SOW, and I assume - and hope - he will eventually provide the aircraft we all want as he rolls out his, presumably, chronological development of SOW theatres.

And surely you must all have realised that SOW:BoB will lock you into early aircraft sets until the next phase is developed for sale? Don't hope for a Typhoon or a Tempest just yet. Or did I miss something? Anyway, I'm getting off-topic now.

I hope this topic will be left 'clean' for further news of the integration of AAA mods with the final 4.09 from Oleg.

PLEASE don't let it descend into an argument about 'what 4.09 should have been'.

Thanks again guys,

klem

So why are you wasting your time looking at this web site, which is dedicated to modding of a game which you don't want to buy? Sure, it would be great to have all the planes which you mentioned, but you need to appreciate that all the 4.09 aircraft have been created by skilled individuals who have volunteered their own time to add content which is being offered to you for free. You are at liberty not to use it. The aircraft they have chosen to make are those that they are interested in. You cant expect them to spend time on stuff they are not interested in.

Far from rewriting history, IL-2 has opened the page on chapters of aerial warfare which I for one was previously never aware of. Taking the blinkers off now and again is good for all of us. You should try it sometime.

I thought I knew a lot about WWII, but I have to agree here. Going back and researching/reading about aerial battles and campaigns I did not know about even leads to having to read about the land and or sea campaigns going on below. (Then I have to find out about the socio/economic and political aspect of the time/place. But, that's just me). Even has led to finding out about lesser known, (but just as interesting), battles of major campaigns. A lot is known/published about the major players of WWII, but we are still finding out things about the Soviet (major player) involvement that has not been published before. Also, more is coming out about the lesser known players of WWII. While I am sure that this history has been well known to the countries involved, not a lot has been published until the past couple of decades. Not to mention that some of the countries involved do not exist anymore. So more history has been lost for whatever reason that has to be retrieved thru obscure archives or personal accounts.

So I look forward to any additions to this flight sim. Just more new stuff to play with and mod. Besides, IMHO, this flight sim was probably designed to look at things from the Soviet side to begin with. Which would obviously include countries that were bordering on and close to the Soviet Union at that time in history and those they were engaged against. Anyway, just my two cents worth.

Take care,
C2

We must be patient while we work work on our IL-2. All of you highlighted at least some valid truths. However, many of the comments reveal presumptions-much ado about-as yet-nothing.

Perhaps the modder team for 1.2 should do a poll and get it going now. Ask simmers if they want basics from each theatre and the ability to add planes and other mods that they like, or, do they want a bunch of stuff that they will probably never use-my educated guess is that the community majority wants a base to build as they choose.

However, the community would have more unity and less confusion with a core standardization. And we have a moral obligation to give honor where it is due in recounting history.

All that having been said, I must add that 1C: M Games has limited, not unlimited resources. The company has had a history of testing editions of sims in Russia and surrounding countries first. It makes prudent business sense to have stategic thinking such as this to ensure that the venture survives. Many of the decisions of Maddy Daddy has been to be able to plug releases together in a logical and non-redundent way. BobSow will continue the Saga and address many issues. Obviously OM is allowing simmers to add mods as they please. Is'nt that what we are doing? Neither OM nor AAA can please everybody all the time instantly. We can't do it all at one time-IT TAKES TIME.

Most important: Remember that we are comrades in this-no personal attacks. Let us discuss matters as adults. (At least try to fake it!)

Anyone found using foul or abusive language and directed attacks can be banned from AAA. Some apologies are in order.

The AAA military police have warned you. Besides, you're better than that!

Let's not destroy, let's build! Together we are building a huge, expanding, and hopefully better mod community. Big Grin

May we all be better and happier persons in this, to keep the bigger issues in mind. Agree??

P.S. I'm seriously expecting some apologies posted in this topic.

Fireskull.. you are obviously passionate about IL2, and that's great, Smile but please leave the policing to the moderators, it's very easy for these things to get out of hand.

Hmmm...so Oleg supposedly hates the Brits. Doesn't really explain his 'Battle Of Britain' sim. Lots of RAF goodness in there. And from the screenshots, lovingly done, too. Of course, we haven't flown it yet. With that English hating stuff, and all, I'll bet the Spitfires can only get up to 110 miles an hour, and the 109's are supersonic. Cheeky devil!

Maybe he doesn't have time to include them.

patchman, your avatar was complete overkill, please select one of a reasonable size. The site recommends no more than 150x150. Please do not post that as your sig either.

Your avatar has been changed. Please feel free to change it to something appropriate. The admistration has changed it.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Does this satisfy you? Is this just small enough for you?

S!

Just make AAA UI work with 4.09m so we can add all these wonderful mods to this Oleg & Daidalus new content and continue playing. No more 4.08m to 4.09m hassle Smile Thank you for the patch!
