The Slot

Thanks for all the incredible work you and Team Pacific have done Cheech.....Typed words can't really express the admiration and gratitude we in the community have to you guys for sacrificing your personal time and energy ( No doubt you have had a few words from your respective partners / family about this "silly flying game!' )giving us something that should have been in Pacific Fighters as a prerequisite.

Thanks again for all the regular updates that have kept us in agony while we wait like a pack of starving, slavering wolves  8)

I haven't actually kept a log. I joined the team in late-January and, since then, I have averaged about 4 hrs./day on weekdays and 10-14 hrs./day on weekends. I am not the most efficient worker, but I have definitely learned how to work smarter.

With what we learned on The Slot, construction time should be significantly reduced for follow-on projects.

The biggest challenge with The Slot is the requirement to accurately portray the battlespace during different times during the campaign; with the Lunga Point area being an excellent case in point. When the Americans landed on 7 August 1942, the Japanese airfield was incomplete. By the end of the month, the Americans had already finished and lengthened it. By December 1942, Henderson had been expanded considerably, and Fighter One, Fighter Two were fully operational. In April 1943, Carney, Koli, and The Crash Strip were all completed.

When a player launches for a mission on The Slot, proper airfield apperance needs be right for the timeframe of the mission flown, or immersion suffers. That is what drove the multiple map version requirement.

There are multiple versions of The Slot, all of which are selectable in the FMB.

When the maps are released, the download will include the following:
- All versions of The Slot, in a single file directory
- Installation instructions
- A full set of spud's QMB+ missions
- A single-player, early 1942 mission by Former Older
- A 30 page, illustrated Readme file containing historical information and photographs, maps, historical data and screen shots of all airfields and seaplane bases, construction notes, and credits
