Hi all,
My name is Vike.
Via this topic,I'll propose to share with you my work about mods for the IL2 Sturmovik simulator.
There are some modifications i did with 3D Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop for fuselage animations and external features that concern exclusively the Messerschmitt Me109 planes, such as engine hoods, wheel well covers, antenna masts etc...
There will be also some mods using the JAVA programming language, including commands that i created within this advanced combat flight simulator from 1C Company / Maddox Games.
This topic will explain my mods with screenshots and historical facts about this Illustrious German Warbird.
Here we go!
UPDATE N°4 - Me109 All-Holes-Solved Mod with Me109-F4 Mistel
This time it was necessary to look deeper into the game files:
Along with the 3DS Max newly created mesh files,i also created new JAVA language commands for an utmost immersion.
I analysed what Fucida did for correcting the holes there were in the wings of the Fw190A/Ds.
So,i decided to make the same work for the Me109 familly and here are the results,
using Freddy's cockpits,Hunin's reticles,the 6-DOFv1 by sHr and my clean-cockpit-windows:
To begin,
a) Correction for engine hoods for each ingame Me109,including the Me109-Z :
For Me109-E4 (front view)
- Like it was before.
As it is after my corrections:
Still for Me109-E4 (high front view2)
- Like it was before.
As it is after my corrections:
Besides,
This mod provides correction for wing holes, equally for ALL Me109s!
For Me109-E4 (wing view)
- Like it was before.
As it is after my corrections:
Now,for Me109-K4 (wing view)
- Like it was before.
As it is after my corrections:
Still for Me109-K4 (wing view2)
- Like it was before.
As it is after my corrections:
And now, let's make place for History...
b) Me109-F4 Mistel "Beethoven" Mod :
As I said,i opened the Java files for the Me109-F4,in which i included the data about the Ju88-Mistel like it was the case for the "Fw190-A8 Mistel".
However, some of you have certainly noticed that the AI couldn't use the fighter "Fw190-A8MSTL" everytime an airstart procedure is necessary like in the QMB,thus the Fw190-A8MSTL fighters were gliding to the ground with the engine stopped...
I also met this problem when modding the Java data for the Me109-F4,but i managed to correct this!
Thus, the Me109-F4 keeps all its characterisitics (i mean the AI can use the Me109-F4 in airstart missions like in the QMB along with the possibility for a player to handle the Ju88-Mistel thanks to my work.)
I also rewrote the mission "ATTACK ON SEELOW BRIDGE" that is ingame by putting the Me109-F4 instead of the Fw190-A8-Mistel.So,when you'll DL my mod you'll be able to try my "Me109-F4 Mistel" right away
The following screenshots have been taken with the "rewritten" mission:
Mistel 1 "Beethoven" starts to rumble
On the way to the target...
Adjusting the aim
Launching the beast...
Kaboom!
'Feel so Ubahhh...
Returning to base safely (with a good fighter intead of this Fw190-brick-A8. )
Two La7s downed and many ground targets destroyed.
Me109-F4 FTW!
Photos and documents IRL about this fearsome composite aircraft :
- The Mistel-1 (Me109-F with Ju88) in the KG200.
- At Greyfalcon.us.
Note
For using or creating a mission with a Ju88-Mistel,you can look a this well-done Website.
By the way, some weird and funny things remained with the flying bomb "Ju88-Mistel" itself like its ability to retract and/or opening-out its landing gear on ground (like Lowrider cars lol)
This weird bug was there FROM the beginning of IL2 with the Fw190-A8Mistel. :!:
So,
If you think something is wrong with my "Me109-F4-Mistel" mod,PLEASE make a flight with the Fw190-A8Mistel to compare and verify if all is OK.If not, then come and tell me.
Otherwise, after heavy testings (Dogfights in QMB,FMB,missions with airstart procedures, undercarriage animation with or without a Ju88Mistel attached on the Me109-F4,ejecting,etc...i didn't see something wrong.:!
No DM or FM has been altered.I simply made the Me109-F4 compatible with the Ju88 Mistel.
Although it is possible to make the Mistel-1 "Beethoven" with another Me109 like F2,G2 or G6,
I've chosen the F4 for historical reasons and moreover because it has no loadout possible.
(i.e. If you take a G2/G6/K4 with a Mistel attached,it is still possible to take a SC500 hock: ...And when dropping all of that, this isn't very pleasant to see... )
c) Realistic Ejection Procedure for every Me109 :
By default in the game, the ejection procedure consists in seeing a low resolution canopy popping out from the plane with strictly no animation inside the plane, preventing to know if our avatar will *indeed or not* jump…Here are the AHS Mod improvements :
From now on, as soon as the pilot would jump from his Messerschmitt, the ejection procedure will show a double action :
-As usual, the external canopy in low resolution will pop out.
-While the internal canopy in high resolution will disappear in the SAME TIME.
Example with Me109 Early War equipped with a Classic canopy (here is a Me109-F4)
Just at the moment when the pilot begins his ejection…
By the way,
Behind the canopy location,a mesh file is already there, with correct textures and colors…The realism is at max.
A last sight towards my bride before getting out from cockpit 8)
"WAZZZZZZzzzzuuuuuuuuuuupPPP!!!!"
Example with 109-Late equipped with Erla canopy (here is a Me109-G6/AS)
This time,i had to create a mesh with 3DS Max to hide a hole located in the fuselage by default in the game.
To do so,i modified a TGA file from Freddy’s cockpits mod and added my mesh file support.
Here is the result, when Erla canopy is dropped 8)
Hit the silk!
Undoing my seat-belt...
...Then bailing out!
This new and much much more realistic ejection procedure DOES NOT alter the ejection time and,as usual, beyond 500 km/h IAS,the pilot will stay prisoner inside cockpit.
Moreover,
I managed to make the new Ejection Procedure of my AHS Mod adapt for the particular case of the Me109-G6 canopy types :
Whatever you choose to fly the Me109-G6 with the Classic canopy or the Erla canopy, the rear cockpit structure will correspond.
Rear cockpit structure with Erla canopy (cf - Me109-G6/AS screenshot -)
Rear cockpit structure with Classic canopy (cf - Me109-F4 screenshot -)
Even if you fly with or without Freddy’s cockpits mod.
IMPORTANT:
If your Messerschmitt 109 is riddled with bullet impacts upon all of its cockpit windows then, when ejecting and ONLY when ejecting, the AHS Mod will hide some impacts. Here is why :
This is done in order to prevent this :
Impacts floating alone
Indeed, when canopy is dropping down, the windows damages do not follow it !
Thus,i made a compromise between realism and aesthetic.
EVERY other damage type such as oil splatters etc…will stay identical and unchanged, even bullet impacts on all windows IF you DO NOT not eject.None of the FM or DM are modified in the AHS Mod,obviously.
And now,to conclude all that stuff,i propose some goodies:
d) Me109-G6-Late and G6/AS with K4 refinements :
On the last months of the World War II,the Luftwaffe maintained its Warbirds as it could.
During maintenance, some Me109 couldn't get benefit of recent spare parts and was then grounded or...Downgraded. hock:
But sometimes, some Me109s could get benefit of upgrades if they were at the right place at the right moment. Thus there were some Me109 featuring miscellanous stuff on them, like the famous G6 Wknr 163824.
This Me109 was firstly a G6-Early,then a G6/AS after reparation and finally a G6 Late after a second reparation with the specific missing antenna mast from K4.It is now in an autralian Museum.
Concerning the G6/AS,it was simply a G6 with an DB605AS engine. The G14/AS was made the same way but with MW50 as standard.
However,on some photos and documents concerning the G6/AS and G14/AS built or repaired from October 1944 onwards, some of them got benefit of some of the Late War stuff provided with the Kurfurst-4.
The Me109-G6 Late and G6/AS with K4 refinements :

Rear view for both aircrafts with K4 refinements :
Specific missing antenna mast from the K4 and my cleaned windows with the corrected goniometric antenna for the G6/AS,which is included in this mod (using Freddy's cockpits).
By the way,as the G6/AS and G6 Late share the same in-cockpit files,my mod will apply automatically to both planes.

UPDATE N°3 - Me109-K4 Mod and Antenna Bug Correction
After the very welcome BAR OUT mod for Fw190A/D made by Fucida ,here is another BAR OUT mod for the Me109 family:
The in-cockpit rear view bug correction for the Kurfurst-4. :!:
a) Correcting the antenna bugs in the Me109 family :
First,a little recall about the antenna mast rear view bug in the Kurfurst-4 cockpit.
As you may already know,a very old graphic bug affects the rear view inside the Kurfurst-4 cockpit since the beginning of the IL2 serie.
This bug is the antenna mast that is still showing while it shouldn't... hock:
Thanks to the recent Fucida's mod for the Fw190,i could find some useful infos to use in the 109 familly as well
This correction provides a little gain to the rear visibility,as it was IRL,and makes the Erla canopy more useful than ever.
Here is the result provided by the correction :
This mod removes the antenna mast we have in the stock Me109-K4 cockpit rear view.
For those who have installed my previous mods, including the "G10 & G14 Late War" (here) and the G10-Erla (there),in which those three planes have also the specific missing antenna mast,i adapted this new mod for them.
Example with my Me109-G10 Late War :
- Outside view (See the specific missing antenna mast like on the K4 )
- Inside cockpit,rear view. (Tadam! )
This correction is also fully compatible with the "Clean Erla canopy windows" option i provided with my previous mods.
Photos and documents IRL about the Late War 109s rear view :

About the uncorrect antenna type for the ingame Me109-G6/AS.
As some of you have certainly already noticed, our ingame Me109-G6/AS has a circular antenna on the fuselage roof, which is located at the second fuselage section...Like on the K4. hock:
As a Gustav model, the G6/AS goniometric antenna is normally placed on the first fuselage section, like on all the other goniometric antenna that equipped the Gustav.
Here is the correction :
This mod replaces the previous stock Me109-G6/AS circular antenna, that was historically uncorrect.
Real data about this type of antenna on the G6/AS
At 109Lair :
- Me109 G6/AS and G6/U2/AS (with GM-1 or rather MW50 like we have ingame) drawings from a right sided view.
At "Messerschmitt Bf109 Hangar" :
- A G6/AS on a black and white photo.
- A colored profile of a G6/AS.
Then,
I realised an external mod still for Me109 Kurfurst-4,still inspired from real facts:
Due to the harsh and rough conditions in which Luftwaffe pilots had to take-off and land, some of them decided to remove the wheel well covers from their brand new Me109-K...
b) Withdrawal of the wheel well covers for the Kurfurst-4 :
Documents IRL about this "Field-mod" :
At "Messerschmitt Bf109 Hangar" :

UPDATE N°2 - Me109-G6 Mod and Me109-G10/G14 Late War Features
This new mod will provide...
a) Visual Mods :
For Me109-G6 Early such as
Erla canopy with Classic tail :
or
Classic canopy with Tall tail :
And also Late War features for Me109-G10 and G14 such as :
Specific missing antenna mast like on the K4:
And also, the removal of the stock ground attack lines on the G14 cockpit windows.
b) Goodies! :
The goodies will permitt you to fit :
-Alternative armor plate for Classic canopies on Early War Me109s (G2,G6).
-Clean plexiglas windows for every late 109s (G6-Late onwards) including the modded G6-Early with Erla canopy.
-Alternative wing bulges and tail wheel types for both Me109-G10 and G14.
A README file is also included, please read carefuly.
UPDATE N°1 - Me109-G4 and Me109-G10 Erla
I managed to find how the 3D mesh files were working each other.I tried some interestings things but i decided to concentrate my efforts on some simple modifications with NO bugs and NO glitches as far as possible.
Here are my final results :
a) The Me109-G4 :
This Me109-G4 replaces the stock G2 in the sim.
Fuselage: From G2.
Wings: Taken from G6 (>To obtain the little wing bulges ).
Wheels and undercarriage: Taken from G6 (>To obtain the fixed tailwheel as IRL).
No visual bug noticed.Take-off and landings happen normally. The undercarriage animation is identical to the G6.
After researches, the appearances are correct, except the circular antenna on the fuselage roof.
I couldn't remove it,because it is combined with the fixed tail wheel! :/
Links about the Me109-G4 IRL:
- At "Messerschmitt Bf109 Hangar".
- At 109Lair.
And obviously,
- Rote Sieben,a magnificent and real Me109-G4!
About 1300 Me109-G4 have been built from September 1942 till May/June 1943.
Also,German Aces Erich Hartmann and Günther Rall flew on this aircraft.
b) The Me109-G10 Erla :
This Me109-G10 Erla replaces the stock G10 in the sim.
Tailplane: From G10.
Wheels and undercarriage: Taken from G10 (till here, all is OK  ).
Engine hood: Taken from G2 (>To obtain the flat left engine hood and a correct harmonization between MGs furrows and compressor intake see here ).
Antenna: Taken from K4 (>for the specific antenna missing mast).
Wings: Taken from K4 (>for the large wing bulges ).
No visual bug noticed.Take-off and landings happen normally. The undercarriage animation is identical to the Me109-G10.
After researches, the appearances are correct, except the right engine hood, which was Classic as on the other late 109 of this era.The G2 hood didn't let me the choice! :/
Links about Me109-G10 Erla In Real Life :
- At Ubi-US forums.
- At 109Lair.
This particularly elegant bird has been built by the Erla firm from September 1944 till January 1945.Among many units, this aircraft also equipped the "Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana" (ANR) in the Northern Italy in 1945 (see links).
c) Armor plates on Early War Me109s :
I also looked at the famous GlassPanzer that equipped many Early War Me109s like G2/G4/G6 before officially being a standard with the Erla hood at the end of 1943.
Unfortunately, the 3D files don't dissociate the GlassPanzer from the Erla Hood :/
Thus,i couldn't compose a Classic Early War Me109 canopy with the GlassPanzer (i tried,be sure ,but the result was quite frightening  )
Unless replacing the Classic canopy with the Erla one,but this wouldn't be historical at all...Although it is possible.
So,
I decided to simply apply the small armor plate we can see ingame on Emils and Friedrich 109,which has existed on later models but in few numbers...

Also,
NO modified FM/DM
The Me109-G4 works for most nationalities, but choosing Slovak,Hungarian and Finnish markings ingame will result in retrieving the stock G2.If interested, and if Slovak,Hungarian and Finnish Air armies had indeed G4s IRL,then i'll do Me109-G4 for all nationalities.
The skins shown on screenshots are from CptFarrels (Me109-G4) and from Zargos (Me109-G10 Erla)

Although it is possible to make the Mistel-1 "Beethoven" with another Me109 like F2,G2 or G6,
I've chosen the F4 for historical reasons and moreover because it has no loadout possible.

c) Realistic Ejection Procedure for every Me109 :
By default in the game, the ejection procedure consists in seeing a low resolution canopy popping out from the plane with strictly no animation inside the plane, preventing to know if our avatar will *indeed or not* jump…Here are the AHS Mod improvements :
From now on, as soon as the pilot would jump from his Messerschmitt, the ejection procedure will show a double action :

During maintenance, some Me109 couldn't get benefit of recent spare parts and was then grounded or...Downgraded. hock:

Concerning the G6/AS,it was simply a G6 with an DB605AS engine. The G14/AS was made the same way but with MW50 as standard.
