Awesome work Skunk! 8)

Do you also plan to issue this map with the early version of Henderson?

I was thinking of that Cheech. I was thinking that I could have an "early" version of this map without the later american airfields and a "late" map with all the airfields I'm building now.

Skunkmeister Wrote:So...you guys want BIGGER maps? Do all your image processing in Photoshop, because GIMP and Irfanview just dont cut it, they cause loading errors because they cant generate the map files properly.

Hmmm, I found some huge problems in Photoshop when handling grayscale maps. Photoshop uses a scale from 0% to 100% instead of from 0 to 255. So some gray levels are lost. At least this happen with version 7.0.

~S~Skunk,
Are you looking for photos of the airfield, or the mission station there?

I found this shot of the airfield, with the following caption: "Elements of the Zuikaku Sentoki-Tai (Zuikaku Fighter Force) operated from Buin airfield on Bougainville Island during January and February 1943 while on temporary duty, detached from their ship, the aircraft carrier Zuikaku. This unit claimed about 40 victories while flying aerial cover operations in support of Japanese troop units being evacuated from Guadalcanal. Warrant Officer Shigemi, flying his A6M2 Reisen Type Zero Carrier-Based Fighter Model 21, s/n 6544, tail number AI-1-129, was shot down and killed in combat on February 4, 1943 while flying as a member of the Zuikaku Fighter Force on Bougainville."

Sorry, been a busy few days. I have images of Kahili airfield (the drome that is next to buin), is that what you wanted? I don't have any of the village of buin though.

According to Pacific Wrecks: "This airfield was known to the Japanese as "Buin Airfield". Allies called this airfield "Kahili Airfield". To add to the confusion, after the war, Kara (Toripoil) Airfield was used until 1989 and was known as "Buin Airport", but was not this airfield.

Here are two photos of Kahili field.

Yeah, I have several BDA images of kahili. I also have balalle, buka, munda etc. Nothing called "buin" by the USAAF though.
