Add new countries?
#31

So, if I unterstood well, up to now nobody figured out how to tell Il2 to pick the right tga-files from the PaintSchemes/decals/... folder and assign them to the appropriate country and aircraft?

Would this be hard-coded? There must be somewhere a file that holds this information, isn't it?

Some guys already had posted in another section some screenshots showing aircraft with new markings in quick mission builder. This was in version 4.05, I think.

Does anybody know if they used Mat Manager or if they managed to mod this?

So... it is almost working !!!

Now, I have a Spanish squadron in the FMB (Red sided), and using the Spanish speechpack, its pilots speak... Spanish !!!

I think I just have a last problem to solve : I can not access the armament panel. I suppose it is due to the fact that I have no default markings and numbers for the Republican Spanish !!!

But I think I have made a very good step forward...

Still searching a solution, but I have no talent for making image files such as national markings !!!

Keep waiting, boys !!! I think solutions is near to have a brand new nationality working 100 % !!!

Try to use "dummy" images instead of the real ones. You can copy files from other nations, modify them a bit (just add a bright color somewhere) and play with it until they show up correctly.

Once you figure out how to do that it won't be hard for others to make the necessary correct markings.

Working a little better now : I can access the weapon panel !!!

But still no default markings and numbering... still some work !!!

A friend will do me a Republican insigna.

How did you do that, I'd like to have a Spanish speaking country on blue side?

I recommend this wikimedia commons page to everybody that needs high quality pictures of roundels:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Roundels

You should also search the sub-categories. There are many, many roundels in SVG vector image format (You are able to open this with the freeware program "Inkscape").

Recently I uploaded also a Spanish Republican roundel, as I focus on pre-WW2 roundels working to complete this wiki-commons category. I also recommend the Yugoslav roundels.

If you download the campaign 'white sun blue sky' (flying tigers) it comes witha completly new country titled 'none'.

I do not know why he called it 'none', instead of china or whatever.....but the important thing is that you get a new country in game called 'none'.

I'm completely useless at all this but if someone could see how he did this....we might be unto something here

Sorry, but it's all the help i can give......it's a dammened good campaign anyway, worth downloading

Hi

Glad you like 'white sun blue sky'. I spent a long time on it!

As has been mentioned, I didn't actually make the country 'None' Smile If I could have, I would have at least re-named it "China", but the sim won't allow it

The 'none' country was in the sim when you got it. If you take an un-modded install of FB, and you add an empty folder named "NN" to the campaign folder, you get the "None" country

I don't know why they did this, but they did...strange but it's there. It's also possible to use this "none" country in campaigns in which the player does not fly for the "none" country. It has limited uses in that case, and if you open the mission in the FMB, it ruins the trick- the country is no longer "none"

Anyway- I wish I had figured out a way to add countries...but I didn't. It's a trick, but not a trick made possible with mods Wink A good trick though

A work-around to all this is to simply use a country you never fly for- like Rumania, and give it a new icon, and music, and ranks, and awards...but it's still called "Rumania"...I imagine a mod could alter the country name, though

OK. Many problems solved !!!

Now, I can have Singles missions and Campaign folders for :

-ch Switzerland,
-cn China,
-es Republican Spain,
-is Israel,
-mg Managua
-sp Nationalist Spain.

They are working perfectly, with a specific menu music every one, without alteration of any other nation, etc.

It works perfectly, but I just miss some things, like Swiss, Israeli, and Nationalist Spanish awards, ranks, things like this... in the meanwhile, I have used French awards for Switzerland, US awards for Israel and Republican awards for Nationalist Spain.

I have tested all this, and it works fine. Thanks to wingflyr and ILV_Aquila_Noctis for their suggestions and ideas.

Also, I have created a blue and a red sided Spanish squadrons, which are also working well in both FMB and QMB. Using the Spanish speechpack installed twice (once under es and another time under sp), my Spanish flights communicate in Spanish !!! Very immersive when flying my old Spanish campaign, which I have spent the all afternoon modified for this...

But I still have a big problem : no default markings and numbers for both Spanish sides... any idea ???

I have not tried to create specific squadrons for Switzerland, China, Israel and Managua as all campaign I found for these countries are made with custom skins, and can use the active speechpack creating (for example) Israeli missions under a US squadron... which means also that these countries do NOT appear in QMB and FMB. But finding the solution for both Spain will automatically open the way to the other countries, using the same method !!!

Hi Former_Older, I downloaded your brilliant campaign 'white sun blue sky' (flying tigers) back at the zoo (which seems like a long, long time ago) and trully loved it M8. For sure you put a lot of time and thought into it. I flew every mission and had a blast. I thanked you before at the zoo as ddpairborne59 and just wanted to say thanks again here and nice to see you over here a AAA M8.
Cheers wingflyr.

Veery good news!
I have another Idea: Is it somehow possible to duplicate existing countries (eg Finland, Italy) that fought on BOTH sides, so we can actually let the Finns fly missions against the Germans? Shouldn't be so difficult, as the roundels and squadrons are alrady there...

I second this: Allied and Axis Italians, Romanians, Finnish etc

Of course, it is possible !!! I am thinking about creating :

-Vichy France blue sided,
-Romania after the change in August 44 red sided,
-same for Italy and Finland...

Creating the squadrons and make them appear in the FMB/QMB is not the difficulty. The difficulty is to make them wear some default markings !!!

But step after step is the good way, right ???

So, if wingflyr and ILV_Aquila_Noctis agree (without their informations, nothing would have been possible), I can release this little mod...

I have an Idea...there are Spanish Nationalist and Republican Markings in MAT-Manager...so why not try extracting them and using them?
National. is an alternate set for the Luftwaffe, and Rep, is with France AFAIK

Mmmmmh... good idea !!! where can I locate them without modifying my own settings ???

Maybe can you mail them to me ??? I let my address in another post...

Yeah, I know, I am lazy... but I am trying so many things that I am exhausted !!!

Anyway, I still do not know how to attach markings and numberings to planes...
