Requesting a Propellor mod. for authentic film shutter speed
#1

Without dragging it out, in the orginal days of IL2, the planes propellor had an effect which emulated the way prop. blur looks in movies and film footage. Now all we have is the Grey disk effect.

To illustrate what I mean, check out this thread from the Ubi forums:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... 040524/p/1

Would it be possible to make this effect to be able to see the blur of the propellors instead of just the grey disk? I am thinking more of movie-making so it really is only for an optional install (like all the others are I suppose).

Would be much appreciated, Cheers, SM

I agree with this suggestion. I hate the propeller effect nowadays.

If you fly with the throttle firewalled all you'll see is the disc , but when working throttle and prop pitch there is some effect from the blades. Granted not the "Strobe effect" seen on cine, but it is there. Perhaps theres a way to enhance it, whether by a mod or by use of an effects editor.

Of course you could keep stopping and starting the engine to get that movie shot.

In FS2004 there is a way to enhance the prop blur efect by simply modding the texture file for the spinning prop. IMHO it is quite convincing and looks very cool. When ever I install a new FS9 aircraft I always find a replacement prop texture for it.

Perhaps the same principle could be used in IL-2? There has to be a texture for the blurred prop hidden somewhere.

for the mod or something like that

If someone can discover a ".txl" file in the AC model you're 99% home on this.

I think for that effect you need a mod that simulates your shutter speed too... or at least set your refresh rates for your VGA-Monitor combo to around 24... which is impossible I believe Smile.

However getting rid of the disk would be a good idea, I think the guys from ED that are building Black Shark have made the helicopter spin its rotors (which are a ton more complicated than these old low poly propellers) continuously and look OK.

Like getting rid of the 2D dot for the distance aircraft would be an upgrade as the graphics power has increased considerably since that compromise technique.

Fisneaky, that demo world you've built yourself there, must look, pretty amazing with all your goodies scattered about dude Wink

BTW good job on the find - now how simple would it be to plop it across our little fleet?

I've found it works on vehicles (wheels) and Ordinance (experiment with parafrags as flares - which is how i discovered it CF = campfire object). Someone with a better knowledge of AC mats should be able to tell if its possible theres must be some input for RPM too as thats modelled in standard disc - [generator] section perhaps ?, though I suspect the prop disc is some form of ".txl" animation list.
