For the God's of Mods! Possible to ever have or make a B-26?
#1

For such a work horse of the American airforce, it seems such a shame that it looks like it was destined never to fly for IL2.

That is until the Mod Squad came along, and burst open a can of loveliness into the game.

Each person will have their own request, but as the Allies used the B-26 extensively in WW2, to see it flying in IL2 would be an absolute dream.

I, though, know nothing of how the new planes, Beaufighter, Typhoon, Me410, etc, came into being, but I wonder if it would be possible for any of the Mod Gods, to actually have a look at the possibility and either give me hope, or dash me to the wall.

Just have to ask, if at all possible to make the B-26. It's so similar to the A20, and B-25, it's almost a B-25 with a Betty nose and A20 tail?

That really is a very wide brush stroke to cover it's looks as each plane, I know, is unique.

But a B-26 with the A20/B-25 FM?

Just have to ask, cheers, MP

Here here. A B26 lookalike would be such an important addition to the game, especially for the Western front. I'd love to see this aircraft in the game.

I second this. The B-26 is a much needed aircraft and would be a great addition.

Ah B-26....drooooool (AH DARN my keyboards's ruined Wink )

That'd be an excellent addition. I can picture the A-20's engines being a nice fit for the model, but it'd take a decent modeller to capture that unique cigar shape I think.

After watching the Discovery Channel's episode of WINGS years ago I thought it'd be a great challenge to try and try that bird- they didn't call it the Baltimore wh0re for nothing

I'll be watching this thread 8)

Id rather see the A-26 redesignated to B-26 than the Martin B-26.

Well, we don't have an A-26 to start with so... I think; either way would be good.

At anyrate; let us get through our backlog and we'll take a look-see into the B-26 Marauder, and hopefully the A-26 Invader.

The A-26 was a great aircraft, but arrived late in the war, the B-26 served from 1942 to VE day. The B-26 was used in the Pacific, Mediterranean, and European theaters, I think it would be a great addition to this sim.

The A-26 had a major flaw in that the engines position reduced cockpit visibility in certain directions. There was a air collision within a formation of A-26's over england for that very reason (one plane propellor chopped through the fuselage of another partly below it whilst flying in poor vis) and the crash site was excavated in the last few years.

and there gentlemen rests my case, in a nutshell, this plane was a workhorse of the USAAF and to have it in the game would be absolutely brilliant, hence my initial request.

Please, keep this thread on the B-26, it was a request for that plane only (the one that was stabilised with the addition of the extra 3-ft to the wingspan), and if possible, would seriously be a great addition to this sim.

Cheers, MP.

And after the pilots got used to it they started to like it, I've seem the testimonials and read the books...

Would be fun to go on Torpedo duty with a B-26 in RAF colours Tongue

LoLz... Ah yes the challenge (for me anyway). That'd be the point. I kinda dig the shape of the thing aside from anything else to be honest- rather unique, fast with its laminar flow wings, and 'twichy' Big Grin Kinda like a P-51 on hi-test if I recall

She made a lot more German than American widows...

Yes power personified Smile Kinda like the P-39 before it got 'neutered' by the lack of superchargers. I'd adopted the P-63 as a close second though.

even though i know you're semi-joking, the B-26 got an unfortunate rap earlier in the war as the widowmaker for a couple main reasons. Marauders were delivered from the factory without their radio equipment, making them very nose heavy. They also had a pretty high landing speed as a result of the wing design. The combination of these 2 factors led to very high loss rates in training exercises, thus earning the B-26 that nickname.

IIRC, they had one of the lowest loss rates per sortie of allied bombers during the war due to enemy action.
