For the love of God!, could someone that has the ability tool sand knowledge, please, please, please, try the P51 witht he propoper weight chage to elimnate the center fuel tank, (like the real p51's had done). either by never filling it or burning that fuel off first...
This absolutely disgusting flaw has burned my arse ever since Oleg bungled it and refused to fix it.
please, at least try it and see if it corrects the nasty yaw...
Thanx..

AAA's NUMBER 1 POLICY ABSOLOUTLEY NO FM CHANGEES TO EXISTING AIRCRAFT
Sorry m8,
wait till the new P51 models come out in new slots and it will be fixed i hope.
All i fly is the P-51s and i hardly ever get the nasty spin outs any bad feel. The tans draining, hmm, i am not sure weather that would affect the centre of gravity or if IL2 can do centre of gravity shifts. perhaps Oleg's team didnt have the centre of gravity right to begin with. I dont know what it would be like to have wing tanks only. If i even know where to begin to experiment i would have a go but it would be a fix for newer slots
P-51 is fine. Its not a turner.
I'm making new slots of it and will correct anything IF IT NEEDS IT.
You boom and zoom with the mustang. No matter if a combat report says it outturned a 109/190. That german pilot could be inexperience for all you know.
From what i have seen the tank location isn't modelled. The actual CG may be off, but i do know for sure as i do not know the real life CG of the Stang.
I fly fine in the mustang even at 50%. Its a great aircraft. All i can say is learn to boom and zoom.
The Il2 engine has no C of G effects modelled for Fuel usage and distribution. Fuel is assumed to be in a single tank centred on the C of G. To say in relation to the P51:
"This absolutely disgusting flaw has burned my arse ever since Oleg bungled it and refused to fix it. "
is a bit rich, The Game engine doesn't allow it.
Though C of G is not affected by Fuel distribution in game, IL2 does specifically use C of G shift for stores expenditure. Try the Yak9B with 128 PTAB 2.5s. Its all over the place until the bomblets are released. post release its like a normal Yak

Rest assure. IF it is inaccurate it will be fixed. I love these planes and they (like the FW190 to Hawk,Howlin,Gringo etc..) are in good hands.
For a new slot with eventual corrections of FM, only if required, why not creating a P-51K, i.e. a P-51D with a different propeller?
I also wonder about the F-6D, the recon variant.
A few weeks ago I started flying all varients of the game P51. I have never been a fan of the P51 so it took me several years to get around to it & I discovered very fast that if you get much below 210mph & start turning you are asking for trouble.
you gotta keep your speed up. I found that it did a splended chandelle, but if you tried to "yank & bank er around" it would snap roll fast ...
nix mit der yanken & banken...

actually, it is a very nice flyable aircraft...
I do see where the P51 (hanger Queen) & Mig 3 are on the same FM...They both erupt in flames very easily from very few hits. I guess that was par for the course though...
those that say it is not a turner or will not turn with a 109 in the game. It will, i can get it to turn with a lot of aircraft and the mustang mkiii i can get it to out turn most aircraft. The combat reports only tell you black and white. This plane out turned this plane. It doesnt tell you the skill of either, the speed that the mustang was fighting at and the alts, Yes at low alt it can still turn with a 109 if you play it right. I will BnZ but prefer the dogfights
I don't especially know that much about the real life P51/Mustang but the in game mustang and P51s handle fine to me, if you use it correctly and efficiently you can out turn an La7 for at least part of the turn to get a shot on it.... and it isn't a turn fighter, it's a BnZ high altitude plane. Works great up at height you just have to wait about 8 minutes to get up there first..... lol
I am tired of this story of the supposedly porked P-51...P-51 FM I think is as accurate as it can get in IL-2, the way it handles makes sense all the way, and is a fine plane to fight in IL-2 anyway. Now as every plane has its own limitations, and if Ramstein expects to follow a Bf-109K-4 in a loop, a plane that had a such superior power/weight ratio and slats, I am sorry, this is no option.Playing online (not anymore) I had the experience of making opponents falling in the trap of 109s immelmans...I shot down a few people like this.
Seems most posters haven't read carefully the initial post. Ramstein is talking about some "nasty yaw" which is bothering him, he's not mentioning turns or spins. I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing but for me the "nasty yaw" means a certain "yaw instability" more manifest with the P51 than with other planes (some previous patches back this was present to a great degree in the Corsairs and the P47 but it was toned down) . This yaw instability is critical especially when shooting and trying to do fast aiming corrections...It's not that you can't do things with the P51, it's just that you have more workload than with most planes in the same class. Well, that's my oppinion at least, you know how many tons of posts were spent on this on ubi
Howdy, here's my two cents worth.
I've been a P-51 fanatic for over 30 years and I think the FM is OK (the aft CG effect is a bit exaggerated, but I can deal with it with a little practice.) The only problem I have is that the P-51B/C FM is slower than the P-51D. This is simply incorrect. The B/C model was actually slightly faster, primarily because it had a thinner wing. No B.S., I've talked to pilots that have flown them both and they are unanimous that the B/C model is faster. They say that you typically need a couple of inches less manifold pressure to hold formation on a D model.
The reason the D model had a thicker wing was so the gun jamming problems present on the B/C model could be fixed. The guns in the B/C model were set at a 45 degree angle and the gun feed chutes had such a sharp turn in them that the ammo would get hung up and jam the gun if you were firing while pulling more than a couple of Gs. In the D model they set the guns upright and this took care of the problem, however it necessitated a thicker wing. (It
