What I want to say is: there's generally superficial and lighthearted feedback about the maps in progress here. This attitude is not gonna help improve the quality. I know it's hard to say something negative towards a wip of some guy who worked hard and lives over seven seas and sever mountains. But we all have the same goal: IMMERSION, and we are really strong only if we act as a community, the map community, a community which knows it's interests. I'd really like to see more critical attitude towards the new maps.
Yeah, I had to say this for some time already, and I hope you see the positive content of it.
And once again: we are strong TOGETHER...
I think the feedback has been quite good. Constructive criticism has been given, there has not been a lot of flaming (thank goodness), and the maps are of high quality and have been well received. I guess there would be more feedback if there were glaring issues and quality control problems. People naturally have a tendency to gripe about bad things. If they aren't griping, then it must be good.
Hehe, constructive feedback is not necessarily proportional with number of posts in a map wip thread.
As about the quality of the new maps versus Olegs maps, I'm not so sure overall if you take into account ALL aspects and if you take an impartial (we are generally enthusiastic about things happening lately here) look at it. This can be a fascinating discussion...
I agree with you.
I am critical about certain maps for several reasons but saying something about it to the mapmaker
for the time being i'm extremely grateful for any new map project ... i'm sure more attention to the details will come in time .
So far map creators are still struggling with just getting map to work on every system ( perfect/excellent/threes2 /3...) , IMHO
but i do hear what you are saying ,Lowfighter

As someone has said most of the maps are still WIP. When criticism is made about something or other the response is often "I know about it, it will be fixed in the final version...". Also downloading one of these WIP maps often involves intricate installation procedures, the non existence of required missions in the download (army red, army blue etc), so they will not load in QMG. Even with the finished maps there are few if any missions to fly, I have only one mission for the official Bessarabia map which came out last xmas. My point is how do we get familiar with these maps if we, the great unwashed, are not map makers or missions builders? Once there are more campaigns and missions to install and fly over these wonderful maps I'm sure people will have more to say. Me, I'd just like to say a big thank you to all those who give their time and resources and do their very best with these maps. That said, even when they are officially finished they could still be updated with new objects or textures, so have a little patience. The perfect one world map for il2 is probably being worked on in a little room somewhere, as we speak...
I had some critical input on the Philipines map, but that post was deleted. Fortunately, the creator got the message before.
Faults in the community-made maps will be/are being addressed (Team Slot have released v1.1 of their map for instance) but the same cannot be always said of the official maps. One can, to a certain extent, forgive 1C/RRG for faults in the PF maps since I suspect that info on the Pacific/Far East theatre may not be easy to come by in Russia, but what about faults in the maps of Soviet territory? There are some glaring omissions/errors in the Gulf of Finland maps for instance, some of which could easily have been corrected by 1C- but never were. And until recently, we couldn't correct them either.
If a map has major bugs it would undoubtedly attract criticism/comments, but the community-made maps I have used so far have been remarkably free of serious problems- no CTDs etc. Given that the map-making is a "learn as you proceed" process one can only compliment the makers on achieving what they did.
Well maybe we should start a thread asking people to help deciding the content of such a guide and possibly to contribute parts to it. There are a couple of tutorials already covering different aspects...ok I'll start it
