Worries

JV 44, The Redwulf Squadron is currently investigating "the mods". Quite a lot of heated discussion has arisen amongst squad members, especially wrt planes "sporting" modified FM's/DM's inadvertently being allowed into an online DF/COOP.

Our understanding of how the wrapper.dll works is that, upon game launch, the ../MODS folder is first inspected for maps/tga/eff files to enable the various mods, if not found, the "old" ../files folder is inspected and if not found the default "hidden" files.sfs structure is used. BTW, using the conf.ini setting checkRuntime=2 ensures that only "correct" files.sfs's are used.

We've noticed that new aircraft (checking out and enjoying the Me-410 atm 8) )are likewise added to the ../MODS file structure. This raises our issue of concern - could a malicous player add an appropiately named plane with modded FM/DM/weapons, let's say, FW-190D-9 (purely as an example 8) ) to the ../MODS structure and therefore being able to "sneak into" a game with an unfair advantage and hence spoil the fun for everybody else or is the priority of inspection reversed for planes (which would basically eliminate the issue)?

The above must not be taken as any form of critic, on the contrary, AAA is doing a fabulous job in enhancing IL2 and doing their utmost to "keep it clean" - d*m*it, I'm fiddeling with a 1:1 Denmark/North Germany/South Sweden map myself atm Big Grin

It can happen. That new slot knowledge is kept tight. Most of the immature morons who want to hack the game to be l33t have too much ADD to learn how to mod in the first place. I feel we are safe to a point. You may get a hacker or two come on but just ban them and move on.

Thnx for the prompt reply Th!rdEye.

"It can happen" is exactly what the ballyhoo is all about in the squad although, personally, I do agree with you that we could simply ban and move on.

I see you're an AAA Mod Team member, hopefully you might like to consider my suggestion about reversing priorities of inspection for planes (chng's needed to wrapper.dll and also files.sfs to allow checkRuntime=2 to work). On the other hand maybe my suggestions aren't workable since I have no knowledge of the icky parts of IL2.

I have seen that often enough in the past and I hope that this wont happen in this game. If you catch one then its to late in my opinion. That happened in CFS, after a while everyone was a cheater, even if he was only a better Flyer or used a better tactic. This was one reason why CFS died....

How to control that? Making a screenshot or a Video about a sceptic moment? You ban him, fine, then he comes back with a different name and the same game begins again. I think we need a better control mechanismus, how can we prevent us for such Morons to enter a game? Is the checksum the only answer?

Happy to see a fellow "dane" in this forum.

I'd love to have a scale Jutlandia region map including north Germany, part of Sweden and Norway, and if you need help with information or other stuff, just pm me and we can sort something out, eh? I can also do some populating of maps if need be, I will be busy on another project for a while though.

On that note, I've met a few hackers through my 2 or so years of online gaming out on the net, and I've never come across a hacker I couldn't shoot down using superior skill and/or tactics... IL-2 is a much harder game to hack into than CFS was, and this was fully intentional by the developers, AFAIK...

Hell... Howlin, you've been in one of our dogfight servers, where everyone on teamspeak agreed that a specific pilot not present on TS was using a hacked Spit Mk IX25Lbs... Let's not mention his name here, as people would seek him out for this information; I still let him into my servers, but at the slightest hint of trouble, he's a goner. I will emphasize strongly that this person is NOT a member of Nipper's Crew, and never will be!

Vi ses derude!

How are you.. ? I understand your concerns, however I wouldnt worry about it too much.. at least not at this time.. The 99th has been using the mods for a bit now.. and we run coops nightly and have yet tosee any hanky panky.. You will find that most of these mods are cosmetic or immersion oriented anyway.. and I have to say even the new planes, at least the ones I have flown dot offer too much in the way of enhanced FMs etc.. Like Thirdeye said.. this sim isn't quite as easy to mod as CFS.. and frankly this community is also a little more mature.. No worries..

While you might find someone out there who will cheat... since it is possible.. I wouldnt worry about it.. and the benifits of these mods ands the fact that so many honorable guys are using them means you will have more than enough decent places to fly without worrying about that.
