NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Don't destroy the game asking for that.

Another way:

Program your joystick or build a console with all the options you want.

I have a Saitek X52Pro JoyStick and it has 202 buttons and 7 axis in total. Each can be programmed.

Same here mate. But I think it would be sweet to have a button that could switch in between Clickable and non-clickable

I love clickable cockpits in MicroSoft Flight Sim, but in a combat sim I think they would be very difficult to use. In MS-FS, I can usually take my time, hold steady and click on the various switches, but the time it takes me to do that would end up getting me killed in Il2. For a combat sim I think it is best to use keyboard and joystick buttons.

Having owned WWII fighters and other Microsoft compatible WWII aircraft for the flight simulator series, I have to say that it's a big no no for clickable cockpits.. It can be a total pain when you are trying to click on a switch or lever and continualy miss it or it doesn't initiate on that first click, when in reality you would just grab the lever in real life and make it happen.. Total waste of time in my opinion.
Certainly not practicle in any combat situation on or offline when often split seconds count..

There's always BoB:WoV here http://www.a2asimulations.com/bob/

I've played that off and on. It has clickable cockpits. Sometimes it feels like the click zone is a bit tricky. In IL-2 it'd be better to utilize the Device Link features and build a real sim pit Wink IMHO

My opinion...

Microsoft Flight Simulator is not realistic enough for me. Try spinning a C-172 or for that matter a C-152 if you have it, and you'll have to force it to remain in the spin... recovery technique: let go of the stick... The fact that FSX is so overwhelmingly excessive in all respects to graphics, that I can run FS9 in better graphics, is the sole reason I still have/use FS9 from time to time.

Now, as for IL-2 and clickable cockpits I'd have to say NO NO NO NO NO.

I want my controls to be familiar to me (with 300+ planes that's no easy task) and available physically to press, not this bull with moving a mouse around.... as if the keyboard isn't enough of an immersion killer as it is... I want proper handles!

I've got an X-52, got ALL the buttons I need programmed and then some, got sliders and trimwheels all around, so it's mainly HOTAS for me, along with the TrackIR. So in my humble opinion: to make clickable cockpits for IL-2 or any combat simulation is to make rookie pilots kill themselves while looking for a button with a mouse, instead of glancing on the keyboard; for instance: ah there's "G" let's get the gear down now instead of the hmm, where's that handle oh I see ther... SMASH!

If you spend the money on the X-52 or product in that quality range, you won't regret it. My X-52 has served me for 2

 ! Yeah Seems like I had that happen to me one time  Yeah I agree with Viper on HOTAS for immersion. I've got a Saitek Evo Force, Throttle quad and Track IR and until I can afford a 37" touchscreen, what I've got now works just fine.

Thats the solution!

That would work and be quite a bit more realistic than using a mouse and cursor. I doubt it is doable in Il2, but perhaps in future sims. The alternative to a clickable cockpit, but still retaining the feel of being in a cockpit would be to use custom made control panels. I've read some articles on building them, but simply never built one, I just rely on the stick and keyboard.

As for this thread becoming a flame fest, I don't see it. A question was asked and answers were given along with the reasoning behind the answer.
