Decon Wrote:MB-BOB,

I have followed fly_zo's instructions to the letter, which was to find (on my own) and read the instructions for the Unified Installer. Had I followed your recap above, I would have neglected to delete the "Files" and "Mods" folders as specified in the instructions before running the installer, which I assume would have messed up the whole situation. Maybe not. Since you guys are not forthcoming, I guess I'll never know.

Okay....and so why would you need to delete the files folder and the MODs folder? IF you had followed the instructions above you would have started with a CLEAN install of IL-2 1946 then upgraded to 4.08m via the patch. FYI, the stock install of 4.08m DOES NOT have either of those folders as they are MOD folders. Oh, sorry it's that reading thing again. We can all be what we want to be on the internet...can't we? The oxygen is a pilot term, the relax is because you appeared upset, and the read was/is a sincere recommendation. My apologies for trying to help.

Good day

Hi

I must admit I didn't find it difficult to update my 1946 v4.08 install - although I s'pose being an IT Technician helped. I backed up the Program Files\Ubisoft directory first and I update the backup every time I add a new mod or skin.

Although I do keep a folder with sub folders named 1, 2 etc containing the files I ran in that order, because the AAA mods only overwrite/edit the files in the Il2 install directory and not Windows registry if you religiously keep a current backup, and needed to reinstall you'd only need to install 1946 + the 4.08 update and then overwrite the complete install folder with your backup.

That way you only have to get it right once and don't have to remember how you did it last time or RTFM...

Let's not digress into some sarcasm debate. I moderate a Mercedes-Benz website where I:

1) get paid as much as you do, which is to say absolutely ZERO... But I do appreciate your position, completely. You do lots of work (as I do) for little gratitude from takers. This was NOT my intent.

2) understand most of the topics at hand (Mercedes, that is), and thus, can organize such a thread without misleading people by mistake.

As a newbie here, I'm at ground zero in learning the details of modding this game. As such, I don't presume to know enough sufficient to write a useful thread, otherwise I would have offered, indeed. Until that time arrives, I have to slowly learn as best I can, asking the occassional useless question.

Decon's post with links is a good start. Where we noobs need more information is in the NOTES section that would accompany it. The do this but not that, stuff. The admonition that no other mod executables found on the website are needed to make a good upgrade. Things that instill confidence that what is already installed will not be overwritten. I imagine this list could be 2-3 paragraphs long, assuming that readers are "Men from Mars" who need plain English explanations of the most simple things you take for granted but that others don't quite understand. But again, I do not know these cautions myself. If I did I would not have asked the questions.

Perhaps we're off on the wrong foot here. Sorry. But I'm just trying to learn.

Provided you have patched up to 4.08m (m denotes merged not mod). You can proceed to install the AAA Unified installer as it includes all of the required 4.09b1m files. The "UF" (Unified installer) also includes all of the new flyables with the exception of any added aircraft which was developed after the Uf was released (Tempest, Spit bombers ..., new maps ... etc)

Hence, you do not need to install anything else other than the Unified installer.

What I would do in your circumstances prior to re-installing the Unified Installer is to follow the steps below.

If you have a clean install of 4.08m (DVD) then...

Step A:
Install the Unified installer:
Make sure all 4 files are are contained in the same folder then run the exe file. It is the exe file that will install its own files as well as load the other rar files and extract them as required during the installation. Just to clarify, the downloaded rar files are used by the exe and are not required to be extracted by the user.

If you have previously installed the Unified installer or a different mod pack from another site then...

1. Delete your files folder if you have one.
2. Delete your mods folder.
3. Then proceed as if you have a clean install of 4.08m (Step A above)

Explaining the m in 4.08m or 4.09b1m
When Il2 first came out there was no such thing as m (merged) only when PF (Pacific Fighters) came out did the idea of merged come into play. The reason for the m came because those that had the original Il2 had the option to Merge PF with their Il2 game. Now, 4.09b1m denotes Version 4.09 Beta One Merged. The reason for Beta is because last year around this time Oleg released the contents of 4.09 as a public beta.

Now about the switcher included in the Unified installer. The Switcher requires .Net Framework 2 to work. If you don't have framework 2 installed then you can use the handy bat (batch files) to switch to and from the version you wish to use.

Also, the switcher (Il2VersionSwitcher.exe) included in the unified installer is a much newer user interface than was was posted a long long time ago here in the forums before the unified installer was developed.

So in short, you need not download or anything else other that the Unified installer.

I hope this helped.

So i continue my problems in this thread

Yesterday evening was full of joy and pain

Installed 4.09b1m

Install Version Switcher and switch to 4.09 mods an

run the game and pray.................and it works !!!!

I really love the new Maps, Besserabia, Slovakai, but also the Channel, Alps and Slot map ! Their all run fine

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT !!!! This was so easy, so the hammer came later

I lost Engine sound on : B25, A20C/G, SBD 5, Hellcat, Wildcat, Corsair

It seems that all planes using the Pratt & Whitney Engine lost their sound. You can hear it very quit in cockpit view, but no sound outside. Guns, Boms, Rockets etc are hearable

Try to Install the sound files for these planes from the 0.93 soundmod, but i dont work Sad

There are two batch files included in the Unified Installer.

_EAX_OFF.bat

_EAX_ON.bat

I use _EAX_OFF.bat since I don't like the extended audio effect in IL2

he he Mercedes , you say well there is a little difference cos we are here introducing new features only just discovered so AAA is learning along the way just like users here do .

BTW, i'm involved in law suit with MB for two years now .... they fired my a** just because i've broke my spine ( well, dislocated few discs actually ) while on the job , working overtime ..... but i won't hold that against you

no hard feelings here

Carnagexxx Wrote:could you help me with the sound problems z ?

switch to soundmod 9.0 ( most stable one )
i've used sound mod 9.3 before switching to AAA UI and had no lost sounds

reinstall sound mod ( extract it to temp folder and replace presets and samples folders)

if that doesn't help then it must be your sound card settings or game settings ....

1 make sure you've using custom settings in IL2 setup sound driver tab
2 make sure you have extensions switched on in game sound setup

that is all that i can think of ...
