I read above that requests for weapon changes on existing aircraft will not be tolerated, but Im not sure if this qualifies so here goes.

Is it possible to engineer into the engine a chance for a dud bomb or torpedo? %100 successful detonation in the game seems a tad unauthentic to me. I saw an excellent doco on the History Channel about the USS Enterprise and how a Jap bomb hit the flight deck and the tower but bounced off as it was a dud! Think of how history may have been diferent if that one bomb wasnt a dud! after it came to rest on the deck a very brave seaman kicked it overboard lol. I reckon say 1 in 50 being a dud would make the game a bit more exciting. Is it possible? Also if it is possible then is it also possible for the bomb to be seen after its impact as a dud?

A good point - we've never had duds in this game, and it would add more realism if we did. Torpedos, for example, were notorious in this respect: the Germans had a lot of reliabilty problems with theirs in the early war years, experiencing a failure of as much as 70%

I thougt it weren't the Germans who had problems with dud torpedoes, but the Americans in the early part of the war.. 8)
But I like the idea of duds!

Oh, the Germans had torpedo problems too, but they did fix theirs a bit faster than the Americans did.

This is a great idea! One could let duds only have a little rising cloud of smoke to provide visuals that it failed to explode...

Duds = more realism = more frustration.

The U.S. had notoriously poor torpedoes early in the war. Bombs sometimes failed to detonate as well and those duds are still being dug out of the ground in areas that received bombing raids.

YES! duds are a need for realism +1 to this one!

Duds would be cool. What about random bomb delay as well? You dont know when theyre going to go off!

Random is never easy....

One could take this dud thing one farther: dud equipment. How about engine failure? Turbocharger failure at altitude? Hydraulic failure - one gear won't retract. The list is endless. Yes, random is hard to do but maybe it wouldn't have to be random. A pattern that repeats itself over a long period of time is hard to detect. Say, an engine failure every 75 minutes of accumulated flight time using a log of some sort. This log could be user-configurable to extend/shorten the time or reset it altogether.

Just thoughts...

Great days all.

On many occatoions ive had Hydraulic failure's when my gear wont retract and ive had to manual gear down (P-51) and also when my throttle cable is cut and i cannot reduce my speed

i dont know how its happend but it did

You can simulate engine problems with AI aircraft by not giving them enough fuel to complete the mission. Generally speaking, AI will turn back when they reach the point at which they have just enough fuel to get them back to their base. So if a mission is going to use 50% of an aircraft's fuel capacitiy, setting one or two AI to 25% will see them fall out of formation and return to base during the outbound leg of the mission.
