This is probably a very silly question, but.... Can the new aircraft be made available to the DGEN campaigns, and if so, how? Is one required to edit files and if so, which ones and where are they?

not echieved yet.
a hack of the DGEN.exe would be needed.
It would require a new version of dgen.exe by Starshoy (the person who made dgen). But I think he lost interest in dgen a long time ago.
Vtrelut made some of the ai-planes flyable in his French Wings campaign by editing dgen.exe with a hexeditor, but it is not possible to include the new planes this way.
Maybe there is another way to mod dgen.exe, but I don`t know how to do it. I hope some of our modding experts can answer this question.
Thank you for your replies. I thought that was probably the situation. As far as DCG goes...I have tried that on several occasions in the past and it has always resulted in a complete failure of each installation I tried it in. No thank you...that is not an option...there is too much to loose at this juncture.

too true.
On my 3rd attempt at installing DCG I followed Lowengrins instructions on the website to the letter.
It worked perfectly.
Thank you for the offer Schanhorst1943. Could you direct me to your instructions so that I may review and study them. I must confess that the previous instructions on DCG have been less than one could hope for and were often confusing. I must say I would really enjoy having an option to DGEN because it has been less than exciting for some time. Without the mods, I would have given up on it long ago.

Thank you for your efforts Scharnhorst1943. I have copied your instructions for DCG and will study them this afternoon. As we seem to be in one of our "West Coast Monsoons" I will be doing that this afternoon because it is a bit damp to work outside. The only job that will have to be done is the drains on the house and once those are cleared, I will do a bit of reading. If I have any more problems, I will PM you as instructed.
With respect and thanks,
