If you've never noticed before, take a look at the shadow underneath any Bf109 model. Notice that it is "boxy" and only slightly approximates the shape of the Bf109. It has been this way since IL2 was first released.

As far as I know, the Bf109 series are the only aircraft in IL2 with this problem. All other aircraft have shadows that closely approximate the shape of the aircraft.

Is it possible for some enterprising modder to fix this issue with the Bf109 series?

The ground shadow is that of the Emils would be nice to have a F,G,K ground shadow

Why? Because this long-standing bug is more than a bit of an immersion killer. All 109s have E style wingtip shadows. I would like to think that this would be easy to fix, compared to some of the marvelous work being done here, but I'm no expert so am quite willing to stand corrected. :wink:

Shadows are small parts of every mesh. The problem with shadows in the game is that they have been tailored with a very low poly standard to keep the total poly count of the game down.

I think you'll find that this would require an edit of each one of WingX_out meshes of the aircraft that are desired to have the edited shadow... a mammoth task if you wanted all the 109's with rounded tips to have these (Shadow LOD1 x R_D0, R_D1, R_D2, R_D3, L_D0, L_D1, L_D2, L_D3, Shadow LOD2 X R_D0, R_D1, R_D2, R_D3, L_D0, L_D1, L_D2, L_D3,, Shadow LOD3 x R_D0, R_D1, R_D2, R_D3, L_D0, L_D1, L_D2, L_D3,) for each aircraft you wanted... but then again, I suppose most of those 109 outer wings would be interchangeable so...
