I have an idea
Take the Him and the Msh from a ship and hide all the msh of lets say the "b-17" move the gun station and adjust the gun's. Set up the flight model where the "airplane" can't go past 40 miles per hour (so it can;t take off) Shut off all like flap's and etc. And MAGIC! you have a working ship. This project wil only take about 6 months!

I actually tried doing that for an expirament, couldn't get the 3d tools figured out Undecided, without the FM part, though, of course. Anyhow, that's what I was saying, in essence it wouldn't be anything that hasn't been done before. Boatplanes-Ships Normal planes-Tanks. I'd volunteer to do something that would help it get going.

Uggh, I can't stand wanting to get my hands on this, I'm just dying to see if anyone picks up this project... The Ideas of it are incredibly spectacular, I'm DYING. I must see or help with work on this.

Back then I tried that shipmod (was awesome) and built a convoy attack mission too Smile My only problem was that I couldnt really damege the large transport ships. I really would like to see that shipmod finalized in the future if possible. Ty

For now let's keep it simple, ships, tanks. Soldiers would be a bit more difficult because of walking animation, and the scale of things is a bit too big in IL-2... Anyhow, just take those boats, change out the model for, say, a fletcher, and change the guns a bit. Ack, I can't keep out of this thread, If Hellzone doesn't give us something in 24 hours I'll PM.

I am just thinking this out loud about AI issues, if you were controlling Iowa Battlesihp itself, AI usually control all of armaments rigiht? Notice how AI batleship usually fire weapons against sea, ground unit, and air units. I am sure it is related to different type of AI 'view' toward targets. The reason why i say something like this is because the gunnery in aircraft in AI mode only seek for air units instead of ground and sea units. But again, if modder could find a way to enable AI to seek for ground/sea targets for main gun while AAA guns would only aim for aircraft units?

I have suggested this mod a long time ago and I have decided that I should bring my suggestion again since I feel like it is time that I should do this since AAA community is supporting this!

And like one guy said, we must take simple step first before expanding our steps further. Start with tank, jeep, boat, or something simple. I truly look foward to this!

and what about tanks with machine gun and main cannon . MG will fire on aircraft or ground and cannon on ground targets

As for vehicles to start with, I have a few suggestions: :wink:

For tank: Wirbelwind or Panzerkampfwagen II

For ship: Bismarck

For misc: A stationary flak gun (builders choice)

We are trying to make this game like SoW or eve better, right? Big Grin Last I heard SoW will have playable flak gun positions... the idea of controlling chief objects would be a splendid idea!! No more stupid AI firing off into nowhere sometimes nor having some sniper flak shots i see at times.... and i feel that controlling ships and tanks would add great feel because you can align ships and put them in formation like you would with aircraft for better stance on the situation. Same with tanks and artillery, instead of just having them "go"

And on a side note... I wish the amphibious vehicles would actually MOVE from land to sea and vice versa Cry instead of having seperate model for each.

Well, the idea is this: You would control PLANES, but they would LOOK like, have ARMOR like, ACT like, and ATTACK like ships or tanks. Splendid idea Airdomination, is it possible to create an amphibous object though? Would using landing gear AND floating objects work, or is it one or the other?

As for the first units, I'd have to pick
Land: Sherman(saw lots of action, and I'm American!) T34 (saw lots of action)
Sea: Fletcher OR Indianapolis
Misc: Pak38. (D-Day! xD)

The reason is this: It's got to be a challange, best thing would be to have enemies that are stronger than you, AND enemies that are weaker than you. A fletcher can kill PTs, other Destroyers, but is weaker than Cruisers and Battleships, but it has torpedoes for those. Next would have to be a Japanese destroyer or a U.S. Cruiser

And the Sherman, well, you'd be able to hit a few different beach heads with those, and they saw alot of Urban action as well. Next would have to be the M-16 AA Halftrack for multiplayer maps (AAA stole the kill! xD) or the T34.

The best part is that there is much more immersion when there are AIRCRAFT up against you and you're almost defenseless. :wink: Big Grin

We cannot forget this is still a flight sim, folks. :wink:

Apart from having amphibious vehicles, I also thought it would be great to have Submarines actually SUBMERGE and SURFACE on their own instead of having two separate objects for that as well...



And if this mod DOES ever come to work... they should have more than one slot for people to be inside per object. For example:

Tank: in a coop, ONE tank can take 3 people... "pilot".. and 2 gunners (cannon and MG).

See what I'm getting at? Same for ships.

The only reason you can survive an attack approach on just a destroyer in a kate is because the person shooting the AA isn't a player 8) .

Anyhow, the Idea of modding is to expand a game to things it has never seen before, new content that changes the game, in some cases, quiet radically. And it's a good thing, if you don't think so, then you probobly don't post in these forums. :wink:

I'm slightly annoyed at the situation, we can add new planes, we can add anything, and what are we adding? I see new plane variants, they can be impressive at times, but really? A new propeller? Mabye the engine sounds a bit different and it can go 10 km/h faster? Some mods really are awesome, like the new mosquito with the groundpounder bomb, or the silverplate. I like to see mods like these. But how much difference does this make in contrast to making a playable warship? or a tank? Heck, I've always wanted to see some cold war jets and mabye even a Tu-95 Bear. I know the modding is still new and in its infancy but what are we waiting for? I.M.O. We should cook up the planes that are missing and move on to new horizons, make the game something truly new and incredible. First, we need a Swordfish and a Lancaster, though.

Now, back to playable ships.

For how a ship's systems would work, I could imagine this, First, copy the PBN Nomad to start with, once it's copied you can edit the NEW SLOT version of it.

=Essential=
-Change it so it can't go faster than 40 km/h.
-Make it so that it has NO lift.
-Change its engine SFX to sound like a ship's.
-Move gunner positions.
-Replace gunner's guns with naval artillary.
-Replace the model.
-Thicken up the armor a bit.
=Advanced, not necessary, but helpfull if it CAN be done.=
-Rename it!
-Make the floating devices invisable-and move them out a bit to stabalize better.
-Remove flaps/gear, etc. But please, keep the navi lights, so we can light up our ship, and the landing light to, I'd love to see those flood lights come on...
-Finally, fix the AI so it's targeted as a ship (though it may not be necessary, as the deck guns and AA already do fire at Aircraft AND ships...)

And that's everything, and a tank would essentially be the same, except instead it might be better to use a land-based plane like the IL-2. Now, all we need is someone who's got the guts for change, a brave modder that isn't afraid to do something new...
