Controlling ships

ughhh Cry thos pictures. I think i still have my boat MOD somewhere. Ill think about it again.
Im only going to do this with new models tho, and the collisions have to be spot on. So if any one can get a modeler im sure i can figure something out.

Woah. What are the chances of that? I didn't think my skills would be usefull for this... I'll need to read up a bit on the tuts, but I do models. I've done workings models for Warcraft III, Battlefield 2, and Silent Hunter IV. Just tell me what you want, and where I can send it. I'll work on it with any time I have. Heck, I even feel like putting in the effort to get a working cockpit for later versions...

Well a small boat from the game is fine, problem is the game is not setup for a player to control it. In this case the floats have a special mapping. In my A6M boat i used 3 had hidden floats from a plane. If someone were to make a new model with the whole mapping on it then it would be 1 big float. Id give it a small engine and remove the smoke from the engine. Make a wake effect and boom u have a cigar boat. I first think i need to make a AAA battery for people to drive around in.

Mabye you could go ahead and see if you can control multiple turrets from a single gunner seat while I get started on the modelling, this would be extremely usefull if possible.

EDIT: Btw, does this mean green light on the project? I'm starting to go through all the IL-2 tutorials and such now. Very similar to BF-2 in a few ways, I've noticed... If it is green light, then I guess we can start using PM's.

I think we need a texture artist, as the textures for the current ships would be a bit blurry for a playable platform, and trust me, I'm NOT a texture artist  , but I CAN UV map it once I have it. Ultimately I'll let Hellzone decide, though, since he's the one actually doing it, I'm just making the model, not all the scripting.

Ok, i'm willing to give the texturing a go.... Big Grin
i have quite a lot of reference material, know my way around photoshop...
What else do we need? :?:

haven't they already tried this?

If they have, then the major difference will be that we won't fail  .

I've started on the model for a Fletcher, and so far I've got the hull and a turret on the Main_D0_00 Mesh if that helps. I can't think of anything else we'll need right now except better sounds, but those are purely optional.

EDIT: BTW, I can do the UV mapping, so no worries about that. I just need a texture.

One of my guys is working on a decent model of the M-16 flacktrack... he's progressing quite nicely, it was intended for this purpose.

When he gets closer to finishing it I can point him your way Hellzone, if you so wish Smile

I guess I'm in the ship department now.

BTW: I'll need the texture once I get the main 'base' model done, so that I can UV map before I copy and make all the LODs, damage models, etc. Just try to use the In-game texture to see what parts will be needed...

~S~ all,

just thought I would share a trick we use to get control of big ships and their guns for our server. For example, we wanted to make Pearl harbors battleship row semi active to simulate gunners just getting going as the attack starts.

What we did was to put the ships asleep for the mission time, and tucked lvt amphibs in between the hulls. using this process you can add whatever caliber and amount you want. A little bit of static smoke and players can't even tell as they are zipping by. We also used smoke to hide freindly V-1's aimed right at the "arizona", 3 of them with a 15 minute delay to make sure it sunk when it was suppose to. It works out pretty good too, with a massive explosion like the magazine really blew!

I ended up in this thread because I'm trying to see if there is a way to place ships in mid-air..........why you ask? here is my current sig at our forums.

Before i say anything, I apology to everyone for going off subject for this once. I would love to see the vivid mod, if you, madcat2c, ever manage to make CV and fleet ship flying midair for pure fun and intense gameplay. And if that is the case and if you manage to success your goal, then you should start your own threads for vivid mods that give IL-2 a vivid, intense, purely fun gameplay. It could be called "Alternative reality mod or something like that.

However, BACK to subjects for orginial, realistic IL-2 shipmod, I look foward to see how this mod progress so far when the first public mod that enables driveable sea or ground veihcle for IL-2. I remembered the old time when Janes Fighter Anthology follow the simliar idea and it added a new dimension to the simulator itself during late 1990s. But now thsi time, with IL-2, I am certain that bring the abilities to operate sea and groudn veihcle will bring more dimensions to the IL-2 itself, in term of experiencing something virtually.

thank you for your support chaoic, my search has led me to the fact, that it has something to do with the static ini config. I noticed that in "Cannons 4.09 channel map" there are derrick cranes stacked in such a way as to simulate the british Radar stations. Some of these Derricks are actually floating off the ground and merged to make the towers, (but they are floating.)

and to get back on subject..........this looks like it has potential, good luck guys, and I'll be keeping and eye on this one.
