x52 usable clutch button registry fix
#1

hey guys

I'm new to the x52 and have been searching for fixes to some things about it that bug me.

this is something i found on the saitek forum, this was written by someone else, but i'm sure they won't mind it being shared. Basically it swaps the assignments on the x52 so the clutch (i) button responds as a normal button, and the reset button (for the MFD) is now the clutch button.

i)open registry (start>run>regedit [press OK])
ii)search for "AviemoreCltBtn" without quotes with the following parameters:
"search for value" and "match the whole string only".
iii)By default the values are:
in decimal: 30 or hexadecimal:1e
change it to
in decimal: 29 or hexadecimal:1d
you may find multiple instances, so do it for every one
iv)Close the registry, unplug from USB and plug back the stick.
You are done. Now the clutch button is moved to RESET and "i button" is free to be assigned

Note that you won't be able to assign the i button in the SST software, but you will be able to in IL2/other games.

This works with the drivers 5.5.0.82, software version 4.3.3.2059 on winxp and server 2003, vista I have no idea.

Hope that is of some help to someone.

Disclaimer! this works for me, and the person who posted it. Changing settings in the registry has its dangers, so be careful - and any problems... I can't take responsibility for, and wouldn't know how to fix - you could make a back up of the registry first? (i didn't)

Hi Pirate,

I did it - and it worked! Thank you very much for this! Nice to know!

I'm still using the boxed drivers from 4 years ago.

Is there any advantage on using newer drivers?

One can do the same thing via profile editor. With the "new" version of SST the clutch button can be given a function just like any other button.

A bit of an update.

Thankyou Fincuan, i hadn't tried the newest SST update, it is more functional than the one I had. The registry fix doesn't work properly with the newest release - it swaps the reset and clutch buttons, but the clutch button doesn't work properly afterwards. But as finucan says the clutch function can be disabled - in the SST control panel under the MFD tab, untick the 'enable clutch mode'.

The update also changes the way the mouse scroll wheel works, although it still seems to 'freak out' sometimes - and either reports many inputs, or resets the x52, which means if the stick isn't centered it throws the calibration off... i read somewhere if you press the pinkie switch while using the scroll wheel it works properly, i've just given up on using it for now.

I'll update this thread if i find out anything useful, if you can make sense of my ramblings  feel free to do the same.

No probs

Just a word of warning to those upgrading from the old software(the one which shows you neat 3D models of the stick and throttle in Profile Editor): You can kiss your ass goodbye to the old profiles. The newest versions, which lack those 3D models I mentioned above, won't load profiles made for the old version at all. Reprofiling all controls for about ten flight sims without any of them written up on paper, how fun is that

I can also confirm the freaky workings of the mouse wheel with the new software. I've even been killed once or twice in IL2 because it suddenly jumped to one end or another while being mapped to elevator trim.

Would be nice if this allowed the 'i' button to be independently programmed in IL2, cant see much advantage in swapping its function to the 'reset' button.

I've not been a great lover of the SST software so program mine thru IL2 alone - shame theres not a fix for the 'mode' switch to be used in IL2 ?

Thanks for heads up tho mate !

As I wrote above the new SST-software allows you to do just that, no reg fixes needed.

Download the new SST software, it is far more intuitive than the old. I was not very impressed with the SST supplied on the CD, but I'm more than happy with the latest. I can send you my profile as an example if you want (standard x52). Though for now I'm just using the pinkie shift for most things, it doubles the available functions alone - without even using the mode switch.
