wounded pilot effect - blurry vision instead of red screen?
#1

you know how when the pilot is wounded in-game the screen changes to a shade of red? and then when heavily wounded it changes to a darker red? is it possible to replace this with an effect where everything gets, say, blurry and eventually darker until death? i think it would be more realistic, your flying ability being hampered by not being able to see straight! the red doesnt do anything...doesnt simulate any kind of loss of human ability when wounded. a good example is from the movie made by mysticpuma "not my time to die" - when the p47 falls out of the bomber formation after being attacked, the instrument panel and all else is blurred. I think that'd be cool if the game did that when u get shot up! a lot more challenging to get her on the ground and get to a medic! Big Grin

Sounds nice, just a little bit red on the edges?

Long time ago I had an accident playing handball and just before getting unconscious my vision turned all red.

I then very much understand the red screen effect and looks pretty much like what I felt at that moment. I don't know if a bullet wound would produce the same effect, because I never was hit by one, but if the effect would be the same as being hit by a contundent object and enter in shock, I would not change a bit of it.

A military physician advice would be appreciated before making changes more "fantasy" or "Hollywood-like" oriented.

Lol nice thread...
When i had my wisdom teeth removed, i got a very strong anesthetic. After being done with the operation and walking about ~200 meters back to the car, my vision first turned black and white, then i got dark sparkling spots all over my field of vision so i could only see about half of what i saw before, then it narrowed ever more into a tunnel. But i stopped walking before becoming unconscious.
Well i guess that more describes a blackout than being wounded, but i wouldn't mind seeing such blackout effects.

The loss of blood is what causes the effect I assume, so really it should get worse gradually after you get wounded. In my opinion, it should be a combination of blurring and tunnel vision. Its a great idea, I wish you the best of luck if you decide to go ahead with it
