Possible idea for a new oil blotch mod
#1

Hi,

I was having this idea, after playing B-17 The Mighty 8th, where the BF109's leaking oil, get their windscreen covered gradually - opposed as with IL2 you get an instant splash of oil.

Having the improved Oil-blotch mod - and the animated oil-blotch mod, I decided to contact Avala to see if he was into my idea of creating a new oil-blotch that would gradually smear a windscreen full with oil.
But he is currently out of time, and I lack the knowledge to make such a mod.

Therefor i'm looking for anyone who is willing to take this up. Avala told me it would be possible to make - and agreed to support anyone who does so.

That could have been done already a thousand times , just tell me how we should stop the animation after oil will gradually grow on the windshield and then stop .
With the current animations scripts , I doubt that very much unless you will make 100000 entries with last texture used after initial oil grow on the windshield to stop and delay the new animation sequence.
That's a thousand dollar question unless some will touch the " other files " to make it happen in code .
If you use loop=0 in the animation script , it will read only one first texture so your toast .
Unless those thing are somehow changed , you can only stop and delay animation for quite little time by a thousands of entries but then again the whole sequence will repeat .
The only reason why we didn't do it to make it gradually grow on front glass is for this very reason as some planes can fly for extensive long period of time and imagine , your flying with covered front glass and them BANG !! the oil is gone in one second and then will start grow all over again.
How immersion killer is that , right ?
It was not done not because we couldn't or we didn't wanted to , it was not done because of script limitation unless someone else will came up with something that this game can read and stop after the whole sequence of textures is read .

We spend tons of time on this thing trying everything imaginable but if the sequence will repeat in just 5 or 10 or 15 seconds because once the game read all textures in script , it will start animation all over again which is big no no .

Sincerely,
HolyGrail

I am sure that someone will try it. But, Eexhaton, maybe it wouldn’t be bad to explain your idea more precisely, for people to understand it easier.

In the meantime here is also HolyGrail & Potenz animated oil blotch too:

(The link is inoperative)

AAA was slow at the moment, so I have edited this later. Respect to distinguished college HolyGrail, he also has right about it Smile

I see your point HolyGrail, thanks for your insight. I honestly got to admit that I did not consider that. Smile

Blame it on my severely limited knowledge about coding, scripting and how the IL2 game engine interprets things.

The only loop-solution I currently can think of, would be making the oil behave like the rain in IL2, constantly raining black onto the windscreen instead of having a "fixed" oil covered area. But I don't know if that would look good or not, especially when the aircraft comes to a halt.

Just a bit of brainstorming here.

@Avala: I have been searching for any material/footage available, but to no success so far.
1 small youtube vid would do wonders.
I'm using the animated blotch atm, kudo's to all the ones involved in making it ofcourse!
