Is it possible to have no tracers at-all?

Is it possible to have no tracers at-all?

So no cores, just gunfire from the wings, no bullet trails, no tracer, just that?

This would mean it was down to the accuracy of your gunnery with the gunsight, but I'm particularly looking to delete the tracer effect in the P-47 and P-51 for a Movie.

Is it possible?

Cheers, MP.

The companion question which is worth considering:
Is it possible to add a tracer to non-tracer rounds? More specifically, wouldn't it be possible to change the ball/ap rounds to have a small grey tracer to represent the actual bullet in flight?

Mysticpuma why would you want that? You'd never hit anyone! There's a very good reason the military around the world has tracer rounds, is so their troops know where their bullets are going! Consider this, which is more important? Using tracers to know where your bullets are landing or giving away your position by using tracers? The millions of men who have in fought war will say "you can't hit s_it without tracers!" Especially in a vehicle moving any where from 200 to nearly 500 miles per hour and being buffeted from the air.

To the other knucklehead, grey stacer to 'see' the other bullets? Come on man no one can 'see' bullets going down range!

This is as much about realism as it is about being a combat flight sim. No tracers and grey to see your bullets? Come on guys think about what you're writing before you post it! LOL!

actually danimal some guys preffered not to use tracers because it tipped off the enemy if you missed. also, they found that tracer rounds have a different trajectory than normal rounds because of the different weight of the bullets or shells.

I am with Mysticpuma.

I also would like tracers removed as they tend to missjudge the actual shot solution, obscures the target and gives away the attack if you do not destroy the adversary with the first shots.

I have been using no-tracers for years in WB and AH with .50cal and I can garantee that any already good shot would get much better results. I specially love those long distance shots (800-1000 m) at turning targets exposing the pilot and the upper side of the plane.... no tracers would be definitevely a big plus in those circumstances.

In real life it was the same, specially since K-14 sights were installed. It is mentioned in several books.

It's for a movie and also historically accurate for the 325th Fighter Group which I am making a film about.

The reason I ask is while working on the script for the P-47 era of the Checkertails story, I came across this quote from Chet Sluder, I think you might be interested;

I'll check that for you, MP mate.

But I think there can be a bug with the position lights after "switch" tracers off... we'll see.

Pls, give me time (24 hours), I'll PM you

I like the idea of tracers at the end of the belt, is that posible. And mabey removing the grey smoke from the 109s. I know its authentic, but its also iritating. Or mabey red tracers, then blue ones 50 rounds from the end of the ammo belt. That would really be helpful on aircraft without ammo counters. One thing that worrys me though. The way mods work is it really only effects your game online. So a no tracer mod wouldn't make your opponent not see them, Only you would not see them. And the AI doesnt care if you got tracers, they break when you get then in range, not when you shoot. Red, then blue near the end of the belt. Is it posible to change colors.

Only needed for a movie to be historically accurate, not an issue for me with online play.

I don't think I'll have a problem with the lights (for me anyway) as the footage would only need to be captured when planes are in action.

When they land and take-off I can disable the Mod.

Thanks for having a look at it, look forward to the result.

It's like I've always said "there's always someone on the internet willing to correct what you said!" LOL!

elbarto said "some guys prefered not to use tracers because it tipped off the enemy " This may very well be true, but of all the gun-cam footage I've ever seen shows tracers. Just because one group did things differently does not mean everone did it that way. I spent 8 years in the Marines and US Army as an infantry officer and we ALWAYS had a tracer every 3rd or 5th round.
My father a Marine fighter pilot from WWII always used tracer ammo as did all Marines. A side note here, the Marines can be so anal at times and if someone would have suggested to stop using tracers because the Army pilots were doing it, then you can rest assured it would NEVER be adopted by Marines with something like this being said "We're not the F___ING Army we're Marines and if the Marines didn't want us using tracers they whouldn't have issued it to us!" There would have been more profanities.

GADGET said "have been using no-tracers for years in WB and AH with .50cal"

What is WB and AH? flight sims I assume?

mysticpuma said "danimalhanke...."Come on guys think about what you're writing before you post it! LOL!"

I really did think about it, so don't be so quick to dismiss other people's ideas!"

Yes, but would I have gotten such a good response with a more lame version! LOL!

You said you always had a tracer in your magazine when you were in the infantry?
I served in the cavalry last year (norwegian army) and i NEVER used any tracer rounds when firing my G3A3. We used tracer rounds when we used the MG3 (about every 5th to 7th round during the summer, 'cause the tracer would actually set fire to the grass etc) and 12,7 HPS (Its basically the same as your M2 browning, but we use another softmount and a quick change barrel that i haven't seen on "foreign" M2's.) But regarding my personal issue rifle, the G3, i never used tracers and i can't remember that i actually wanted to use them either.. Tracers give away your position, even though having a mag with tracers might be practical if you want to mark a target.. But all in all, in my opinion, one should shoot so accurate that you dont need a tracer round to see where you're shooting.

Hey, but in Il-2 you can stop time... if that is the case I don't see why bullets should be completely invisible.

P.S.
Thanks for calling me a knucklehead ...its been a while since I earned that title.

* Eexhaton thinks the spiralsmoke should be more translucent..

Authentic or not, atm they seem way too "hard"

Apart from the whole lightshow that tracers create on long distances. Smile
