Am I the only one getting confused
#1

Hi all,

Can someone help me out please?

I am getting bogged down with " The new buttons files" well completly confused actually.

I have been installing just about all of the new aircraft that have come up to date from the WIP section, they are great especially the new 109's as these are what I usually fly.

Here's my problem, can someone please tell me in plain language what buttons files I should have and why, what are they? I am running the 93 sound mod and I am "not" using the unified installer , I am just adding to my existing game folder. I think that I have the almighty buttons file in my Mods/ buttons file but after all these new aircraft and mod installs I can't be sure, I am frightened of changing things as I get a crash at 60% alot now when I try to install new aircraft. The major ones I can't seem to get to work are the new Magister and the Fairy Battle all the others installed without issue.
I expect its some sort of conflict with other WIP planes or Mods , I've got so many now I've got no idea which ones are causing problems.
If I have to disable some of my modded aircraft or mods to fix this can someone please tell me which ones and why.

Thanks for any help

you will very shortly be unable to add aircraft unless you have the ui game.

this will give us consistancy and ease of install. the magester was the test plane and all future a/c will be added in this way i believe.

also, the magester and i think all future a/c will ruin a none ui game causeing it to crash to desktop.

the ''new way'' of doing business is here.

Ok so I'll have to reinstall with the UI. Is there a quick way to reinstall all of the mods that I have now. Can I copy my mods folder and paste it over the mods folder in the UI Folder?

How do you guys do it??

Thanks again

That's not true about the U.I. shortly becoming the only way to add new aircraft. There's just plans to have updated AC-Installers here.

ceege1 - basically, the buttons files is all the flight models. The different class files of each aircraft call upon a particular flight model from the buttons file. If the buttons file you have doesn't have the flight model of an airraft you've installed, it crashes at 60%. However, you can have a buttons file that contains flight models of aircraft you haven't installed. No problem. So, the solution is to have the largest, most complete buttons file because then you cover all bases. At the moment, the most complete one is Muas's 'All Mighty' which covers all the Bf 109s and the Magister. More recent planes are not included (.i.e Typhoon and Battle) but will be soon.

Now I'm really confused.

I am sure that I have or had the almighty folder you mention . Yes no problems with the 109's ,but I could'nt get the Magister to work at all, are you sure the Magister is in there? After giving up on the Magister I downloaded the Typhoon and it works no probs at all. I then tried the Battle and I was back to the same problem as the Magister ...crash at 60% back to square one.

I am downloading the UI 1.1 as I write this, will that help things if I take the plunge and risk changing my Il2 folder ? Do I need to do this ?

Help please.

Muas' All Mighty buttons file is the most comprehensive to date, however many are finding that they lose engine sounds by using it - that's my biggest issue. I'm now in a "catch 22' situation, either I can have all the new planes, minus some sounds, or I can have the more limited buttons file, with all sounds working, but 60% CTD if using the new AC. I think this is the issue most are having....

ceege - afaik, the Magister and the Battle are the only 2 new AC that are not included with the 'All mighty' buttons file.
Also, if you are going to go with UI 1.1, I'd advise making a backup of your entire current game, then start with a fresh install...

If you install the U.I. and still have the 109s installed you'll get the crash, because the buttons that comes with UI doesn't have the 109 flight models.

The All Mighty doesn't have the Battle, but it does have the Magister.

Ok , so if I go for the UI 1.1 should I just rename my existing Il2 folder to something else and go for a complete reinstall of 1946. Am I really going to gain alot from doing this or is this compatibility issue going to eventually smooth itself out to the point where UI 1.1 is not nesessary to install new aircraft ?

Ceege1, the way forward is probably the UI1.1, although I'm having my fair share of issues with that.
Hopefully its just me. Yes, rename your current IL2 folder to IL2 backup, or something - better still, copy the entire folder somewhere and rename it. You might have to uninstall the original game before you can re-install it, but thats the best way to do a fresh install. Once you have UI1.1 up and running, it should be relatively easy to add your mods from your backup game folder.

Disclaimer: this is all in theory, like I said, I've encountered problems. Hopefully, you won't. 8)

I think I will try UI 1.1, like you say I can transfer my WIP mods over when I get it going.
I'm a little stuck with the install of UI 1.1, it says to download the eight files and keep them in the same folder then run the self installer. Does this mean you drag and drop the other seven files into the self installing number 1 file then run it or do you just run number one file and not worry about the other seven files ?

How did you do it mate?

Chris.

Just make sure all 8 files are in the same location(folder) and run the first (exe) file. It'll automatically use the other files.
#14

Ok sweet.

I'll take the plunge tommorow when I've plucked up enough courage.

Thanks again

in the muas thread is a list which planes are in the buttons.

if you install UI1.1 and use the UI1.1 buttons from his pack you will be good with all the UI1.1 stuff plus the planes mentiones in the thread. If you have something else (maybe from a "different source" than this site) you will get a 60%.

look at the list, check what you have and it will fit.

UI1.1 is certainly the best way to go IMO.
