Am I the only one getting confused
#16

an explanation of how a buttons file works would be helpfull also i don't understand how it works. i always thought that a bigger file always comes after a smaller file. Now the other day i had a file of let's say 850 kb replaced by a file that was lot less then that and still everything works as far as i can tell so that puzzels me enormously. it would help a lot to know how it works i think it will also solve a lot of questions.

Rowddy, it is a pain in the @ss to not be able to discuss the buttons file, but the simple truth is that it contains all the flight models for AC - so, you can imagine the imminent demise of IL2 if this info gets into irresponsible hands...

well what i ment was i no need to the know the secret but rather how i can see which button file is for what and in which order it should be installed in the Gui. due to RL work etc i check for DL's everyday but no have time to install them so i do that in 1x at the weelends only to find out that i have no clue anymore whatever comes first and why the 1 buttonfile is larger then the other but still works for all planes. Simple deduction would conclude less kb is less information but for somereason all still works with less kb too. now that was what i'm talking about just the need to know base to install the things correct. Now i have everytime that here goes nothing feeling.

I think canonuk explained it best in another post - the bigger kb file size DOES have more aircraft FMs in it. The way the game works, is that you need to have the FM for that relevant plane in the buttons file. If it does not have that info, you will get a 60% CTD. It is, however, ok to have extra AC FM'data in the buttons file, even though you don't have that AC in your game yet. The game will not crash with extra data in the buttons file, but WILL crash if you are using an AC that does not have its particular data in the buttons file.
This issue is heading towards being a bit of a headache for the whole community, methinks... 8)
