My all time favorite aircraft is the spitfire ix.
Regretfully, they are very poorly modelled in-game.
is there any chance to:
a: replace the ugly sturdy carburator intake of the mark ix with the more sophisticated and correct intake of the viii
or
b:
apply a rounded rudder on the mark viii?
My purpose is to have a nice, correct mark ix: nice intake+rounded fin
I have no idea why oleg's crew scr*d up the mark ix, ruining its beauty by that sturdy intake, while they modelled the very same thing nicely on the mk viii...
many thanks in advance!
PM Japan Cat, he seems to be very good at correcting the mistakes on these aircraft models.
He has done great work correcting the A6M-Zeros and Ki-43s.
You'll fine his work in the beta downloads section.
Didn't know that, it's good news. What I'd like to see, however, is a rebuilt Mk IX as in the description above. The present model (and the Mk V/Mk I mod)) is a skinner's nightmare due to the intentional squashing of the rear fuselage texture to wrap around the 3D model. This is not an issue on the Seafire and Spit VIII skins and makes life much easier.
This topic has been around for some time. Apparently a post on an "early Spitfire IX" was closed. See the referrence below for more information, it's "only" a 13 page thread. You might find the thread interesting.

The early Spit IX project was never closed, it fizzled out because of lack of data and myself being too busy to complete the model. I've since started work on it again but didn't want to start a WIP thread until I was properly ready to save disappointing people. I've also started working on the rudder and a few other bits and pieces to cover the various Mk. IX variants. I happen to think the Mk IX we have in game isn't too bad, it's a nice but slightly dated model which just needs a few refinements to bring it up to scratch.
I'll get a WIP thread started shortly unless somebody else wants to do as I know there are people working on the other marks and I'm not the the speediest of workers (though I do have a lot more time these days).

I think the pointed rudder could look good with a little modification.
The rudder and and vertical stabilizer need reworking. The nose is also too short if you look closely at the exhaust stacks and compare with the photo. I spent a week comparing various drawings with as many photos as possible and subsequently put together a layered template of my own that covers most of the Merlin Spitfire marks and is some 400meg in size. I'm reasonably happy with the results of my studies and now I have some good references to work from. For the early Spitfire IX carburettor I had to ask for help over at the Spitfire Site as there are very few sources of reliable info readily available on the net. All this brings it home just how hard it is to accurately model aircraft for this game and also work to deadlines as the original modellers had to.
