As far as I know you can't change the colorschemes of stationary ac...
but maybe that feature has slipped my mind all those years. :-?

The Static aircraft all use the Default skins, so you have to change the Default skin with SKINMOD by vpmedia.

You need to download it from his site. SKINMOD is near the top of the page in the centre of his Mod list.

Could you find the 4 skin files? The picture below shows the files you should see in the Cache folder.

I think I know why you can't make SKINMOD to work.
You should not just drop them in each plane's relevant folder...
You have to create, if they are not existent there, subfolders named summer, winter, desert ,
for every plane you want to change it's default skin and in each of those folders you put the 4 skin files you have "fished" from the /Cache, per new default skin.
When the plane is placed to different maps thus, it will change default skin accordingly.
Understood?

Thanks, that did not work either.

As far as I can see you're doing everything right. I don't understand why it's not working.

Maybe your folder structure isn't quite right or there's a conflict with another MOD. Neither of these seem likely to me as this is a simple MOD to install & it's very unlikely to conflict with anything else.

Hi Guys
You will need to download SKINMOD by vpmedia at http://www.filefront.com/13390566/vp_skinmod_v1_3.zip/

I have found that the best way to add skins to Stationary aircraft is to

1.Select AC you want then fly in QMB then FLY ,press ESC >QUIT MISSION>DONE.
Do NOT exit from QMB menu at this point.

2.Press Windows Icon on Keyboard to Minimize IL-2.

3.Now go to il2sturmovik\paintschemes\cache and open Yellow folder
this should have the relevent 4 TGA files you need for the CURRENT Aircraft in the QMB.
Highlight and Copy.

4.Now go to il2sturmovik\MODS\SKINMOD\3do\plane\summer and Paste\Replace

Now go into FMB and in Objects\Stationary Aircraft\Properties in Boxes marked ARMY\AIRFORCE select NONE.
This removes default Markings[as shown in picture]

Sometimes when you go straight into FMB the changes have not registered so you will have to EXIT the game
then re-run[pain in the Butt].
The skin WILL now show in FMB.

Hope this Helps

All has worked well for me except that the SKINMOD does not have the new planes and try as I might I can't get my self made folders to work; and yes I use the same file structure as the rest use.

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\SKINMOD\3do\plane\P-51D-30NA(USA)\summer

If anyone has any info on what the proper file structure is I would much appreciate hearing about it.

99th: Have you used the names of the aircraft as they are used in the air.ini? Also, as noted by the esteemed pilot skinner, elephant, you need to have the correct subfolder...I had a hell of a time trying to change default on my P38's last week--these planes weren't in the skinmod. I named them the same as the air.ini and made a summer and winter folder, but forgot all about the desert one (I had never used that before when putting on new default skins).

Anyhoo, I finally noticed in the air.ini on the end of the line with the plane name, staring me in the face, was the word DESERT. Mere hours later the light bulb clicked on...now my P38s are also sporting new regalia.
