Possible to have dense fog or smoke with this idea?
#1

I'm just wondering if it is possible to create dense fog and/or smoke using one of two methods?

Firstly, if clouds could be created at 0 feet using the in-game 'Blind' setting, this would give the impression that the landscape is engulfed in drifting fog. If it was possible to also use clouds, but change the colour and opacity to Dark grey/black, this could or would look like palls of smoke hanging over an area severely damaged?

Secondly, when starting an early morning mission (say 5.30am or 6.00am) there is a light ground mist shown. Would it be possible to increase the opacity of this effect to make a thicker fog? Similarly, change the colour to black or dark grey to make the effect of low lying or hanging smoke?

Just a couple of ideas that I have no idea how to create, but wonder if those of you who do know, may consider?

Cheers, MP.

If you have HSFX and pick a map in FMB
then set the time say 0535 you get FOG when you paly the game.

Is this what you were thinking of for foggy weather?

is there a way to make the "early morning fog" happen during other times?

One way of increasing "fog" effect is to open the mission in FMB, zoom in anywhere on the map, select "view" then "landscape". Move the "brightness" slider to the left until you feel visibility is poor enough.
Set weather conditions as hazy. This won't give you a full-on blind fog, but pilots did'nt fly in such conditions in WWII anyways. It should allow you to build missions where visibility is far less than ideal.

Well:

is along the right lines, but I was actually thinking of dense fog, where it has enclosed you and visibility is about 200 feet all around the aircraft.

Something like:

I'm setting up a mission where 61 aircraft flew at 50 feet alt for 300 miles in a sea fog, and they could only see 4 aircraft either side of each aircraft. Every one made it to the rendezvous.

So, more of a close fog rather than a distant one.

Thanks, MP

Hi Murph, the reason for this request is posted above. 325th P-47's on a mission below radar were enclosed in a dense sea fog and flew on at 50-feet using instruments only (complete radio silence). 300-miles later, all 61 aircraft rose out of the fog. Jerry Edwards flying P-47 #38 (Alp Scalper) that day said he couldn't believe that everyone made it as they had been told if they needed to ditch, they were not to break radio silence in-case it alerted the enemy. His words "our leader that day did a hell of a job!"

Great story, MP. I guess I stand corrected on the flying-in-fog thing. But I don't think it was done very often? Come to think of it I recall once seeing a photo of the results of a collision between two B17s who were climbing through fog to make a rendezvous in clear skies higher up. Horrible.

Unless the weather closes in, I doubt anyone would really fly in fog like that MP Confusedhock: or would they? Wink
