P.12 Lysander Delanne
Experiment to try adapting the Lysander as a turret fighter, with twin tailed Delanne tandem wing and 4-gun Nash & Thomson power-operated tail gun turret replacing the empennage.
This surely the closest thing to a real Franken I ever seen... :lol:

Not photoshop? If not, then that is really odd. I can't see why it'd be designed that way, as it doesn't seem to have any purpose whatsoever.

No photoshop. Two more photos exist at least: one in the air with no background, this one is not very convincing; one more on the ground
I think, view from the rear, to show the turret; a color profile is available on a respectable "Russian" data-base for all profiles; one modelist who
made/makes a model in front of you in a video about this plane.
Actually the turret was a muck-up during the actual test flight. Strangely, report along with the profile states that this plane flew very well.
And the description above comes from the last lines entry on the Lysander from Wyckapedia, the list of all Lysander modesl made. Smile
I think Picard is very tired of listening to data... TMI. LOL :lol:

I have a book that talks about this, It was designed to strafe German troops in the event of German landings on england. It apparently was very maneuverable, but was canceled as the threat diminished.

It is very strange that there are several mentions that it was intended to straff troops and barges (probably the fear of impending invasion),
while other sources claim it was intended for a night fighter role... But I think this night fighter idea is wrong, and refers to an earlier attempt
to fit a Boulton Paul turret in place of the observer seat of a Lysander, called P-8 ... I should think. 8)

The cover photo on this book could be just a flying model plane though...
its the one I don't find convincing, ...but I could be wrong... Confusedhock: Do you see a real pilot ???

I think he is probably hidden by the wing root,, I am looking at the cover of my hard copy, and its grainy, but I can make out the pilot.

I think it looks more and more like the real deal. The heavy banking makes it suspicious, but there are no guns in the turret, which concur;
a modellist would probably have put some guns; the biggest "pos" is the three blade propeller;
I have checked the flying model, seemingly about 1/24th scale in the guys hands, and it has only an unrealistic two blade prop !!! Smile

Considering it is described as very manoeuvrable, then it all adds up, to be a photo of the real plane... Idea

( My photo has no guns too...) Now here are the three photos in one post:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379249

Clic on pics. All of the same aircraft I think... Big Grin
OMG: I just read that post and it says that the pilot made a loop before completing a very successful test flight :OO !
The story relates genuine lysanders were unstable at low speeds but this machine was not ...
