Directx = less or no stuttering.

OpenGL = perfect graphics clickable in your setup.

Yes, Flying Shark is correct.

If you have a very powerful graphics card (and probably an average one could use it), then you should use OpenGL.

This is explained in detail in my tech topic:

wow i put it on openGL and perfect graphics and ya ah why did it make my game load faster lol!!!! god my laptop can push it that far..
I remember having my old desktop and the first IL-2, i was not even able to go x8 time speed without crashing the game lol.

PS. HOW DO I GET MY FPS TO SHOW UP IN GAME?

I use the free program called FRAPS, but there is an in game FPS counter, too, though I never use it.

See if your IL-2 Controls has the FPS in game.

It's not in Controls. When you are in the game, i.e. in a cockpit, activate the console by pressing Shift+TAB on your keyboard. A bunch of white text will overlay the screen. Now enter:

fps SHOW START

exactly that way, and the FPS counter will appear in red text at top of screen. Close the console with Shift+TAB again.

To stop the counter, do the same thing, except enter:

fps STOP HIDE

DirectX=No pros, only cons.
OpenGL= High FPS, better graphics.

Cnopicilin,

Actually, on many older graphics cards, FPS can be higher with DirectX because there are fewer API extensions for the processer to handle. On the latest DirectX 11 graphics cards with NVIDIA, tessellation activated can make DirectX mode something to be considered because the NVIDIA tessellation utilizes the few DirectX advantages.

Generally, OpenGL is vastly superior, but here are exceptions.
