Principles of Success
#16

IMHO, many goals in life can't or shouldn't be defined and marked in their entirety and pigeon holed into SUCCESS/FAILURE. Life isn't black/white, yes/no, pass/fail, unless very tight guidelines and defined goals have been outlined...and if you do that to yourself for life you could be very well setting yourself up for a fall.
Perception of success is relative to what has been taken into consideration, regardless of how much effort is exerted - some things just aren't meant to be, the alternative may have been successful or better than the original goal but if you focus on the original you can't feel good about it.

For those things that can be defined as a success or failure, it's not the result but how you dealt with it that defines you, and you're the judge of that, give yourself a stern telling off and move on, life's too short

A successful person is not someone hung up on being a "successful person" - that's a potential suicide waiting to happen. A successful person is just content in being where they are and/or where they're heading, and that means different things to different people.

Since we acknowledge that the realities of life are somewhat forgiving about success, let's get more specific.

In one word or one sentence, post one thing that should be universally accepted as a principle of success. I would consider something to be a principle of success if it is something that anyone or everyone could apply and would help them to achieve their idea of success. If it is a really solid one, then I will put it in my first post.

Give us a word or one sentence that everyone can agree is a universal, eternal principle of success:

Strive for the benefit of everyone involved.

Hi, Jambo

We all want to be loved. Almost all of us are loved.

Let's think about what concepts are needed to be successful in life. I am focusing on what we should do or the way that we should think.

That was a lovely thought, Jambo. Big Grin

Wow!
This is one of the best (aka unusual) and interisting threads I have stumbled across in a flight sim forum so far.
In general, if someone asks me how to be successfull, I advice him this: "Think of everything I told you I did in my life
university-wise. Remember what I told you about focus on career, women and travelling. Read my diaries.....AND Now do the exact [Expletive Removed]in' opposite of ALL this!!"
Just kiddin'. (...I always loved Douglas Adams. )
But I'm far from defining success, IMO it includes to many aspects of "gain" and "status", superficial notes in many popular definitions, just watch a sample of advertisments in any TV channnel in any country of this planet and you get my idea.
Maybe a bit more of inner peace, confidence in one's life and simple joy of living would be pleasant regarding definitions of success IMO..
My 2 cents..Yoda speech off.

Cheers!!

Nice, tom

Those are encouraging ideals, but the subject of this thread is to use the principles that get us those wonderful results. True: We know that the results themselves contribute to the process by helping to feed growth, but things like love, peace, confidence, joy and so forth do not happen by themselves. Principles lay the building toward those heights, wouldn't you agree?

Actually, from my observation, the betterment of people comes from being conscious about the principles of success on a daily basis. Sports teams, education institutions, and businesses are examples of organizations which learn from success principles and see better results. Generally, the better organized they are in realizing the principles of success, the better they do.

Agree.

Keep in mind what I wrote are ideals, far from my current norm.

Yes, Tom, striving for the ideal is what we all do. "Normal?": What's that?

Frisneaky, nice comment.

Yes, in a general sense, how high you bounce is a real measure of success. We all bounce, right? Isn't it true that the characteristics of the object, or person, determines how high the bounce?

Thank you - I like that a lot.

Also the characteristics of the bottom. Maintaining the will (or energy ) to bounce is the key.
