I set specular to 1 and it looks so much better, and then I fly, and it is "shiny" again, and I go back and it looks like crap. How d oI set it so its always at specular=1?

In the properties tab of your conf.ini file ( right click ), you may select READ-Only and the Apply button after you made all your preferred settings for graphics. This will cause the computer to not change anything and keep your configuration.

What O/S are you using? Sounds like Vista or Win7 and you have the game installed to the c:/Program Files/Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/ folder.

If that is the case, you need to move the game out of that folder.

You tried 'right' clicking on the conf.ini file and changing it's property to 'read only' and it wouldn't keep?

nothing changes in the conf, it just resets the lighting when I click fly
