SBD loadouts are nasty

3 500 lbs???

YEAH RIGHT!
The SBD mounted three hardpoints, but due to take-off restrictions couldn't carry their maximum total load. The three most common loadouts were: one 500-lb bomb and two 100-lb bombs, two 500-lb bombs, and one 1000-lb bomb. On scouting missions, no bombs were carried. - http://www.geocities.com/copeab/Vehicle ... ntless.htm

Please correct these to realistic loadouts.

Here are some acceptable ones:

2x 100 lb

1x 250 lb
2x 250 lb
3x 250 lb

1x 500 lb
2x 500 lb
1x 1000 lb
1x 1600 lb

1x 250 lb, 2x 100 lb
1x 500 lb, 2x 100 lb
1x 500 lb, 2x 250 lb
1x 1000 lb, 2x 100 lb

no torpedo?

Just the problem that the loadouts are hard to mod...

Maybe, just maybe, these things will once be fixed.

Exactly the same problem exists with the Arado: In real life they carried a single 250kg or 500kg bomb.

Unfortunately we can't modify loadouts in 4.08 (yet)

Good info guys, I appreciate the effort it takes to decode this program. I also appreciate now knowing that loadouts are out of the picture for just now.

THanks.

The question I have, and it's a general question, not specific to the SBD per say but to all aircraft and loadout mods being considered - how can this be done without 'cheating' the performance of the aircraft?

Oleg Maddox assigned certain loadouts to certain aircraft, and i have to assume while loaded with these 'packages', that the parasitic drag, weight, etc is considered in the degradation of the Flight Model.

Assuming it becomes possible to switch and swap weapons loadouts to 'historically accurate' loadouts not originally supplied by Oleg, how do we then change the FM to reflect the true nature of the weapon systems on the FM?

To not change the FM to reflect the true performance of the aircraft, with and without the weapon, is 'cheating' IMHO. It'd be nice to be able to switch and swap, but not changing the FM accordingly (or even not being able to), invalidates the spirit in which these mods are being done.

Perhaps i'm misunderstanding how Oleg codes the program (maybe the bombs etc have data assigned to them that degrades performance accordingly based on engine HP, aircraft aerodynamics etc? Oleg after all has his roots in aerodynamic / airframe design IIRC..) but i think we are expecting too much from this sort of mod .. IMHO.

Food for thought.. this has been bugging me for a couple days in other discussions related to weapons mods..

I am assuming that each weapon is assigned a certain amount of drag. That this drag only appears on hardpoints marked "external". That the mass of the weapon is added to the position of the hardpoint.

These are assumptions based on other flight simulators. I am not sure if what I see in the class files is accurate as we can't edit the loadouts or weapons and I am not even sure where this data is stored.

It would be nice if SG_2Wasy or Mrjolly could give their assessment of where the data is and why we can't get to it (as some of us are still exploring in order to find out).
