NEEDS LINK- Historic Midway

This map looks very nice, however i have a slight problem, my AI aircraft explodes when taxiing to its stand.

here's the mission

When you press save you will find a new actors.static in your ..\il2\maps\Midway folder. (create the folder before you go changing anything first; the unlocked FMB is not capable to do this)
Quit (or minimize) Il2, copy this new actors.static to your MODS\Mapmods\Maps\Midway folder and restart IL2 (or if you minimized, reload the map).
Then the map will load with your modified actors.static.

Never forget the first rule to modding: BACKUP FIRST.

Unfortunately I don't have time to rework the map + this template was made by Boosher.
If you would like to publish a modified (lite) version contact him; maybe he has plans in this direction?

I tested your mission and it indeed crashes.. Don't understand why. I tested from all directions and it worked.. I will have another look at the taxi points. If you let fighters come in from other directions there are no problems.
This was one of my missions (planes do collide sometimes during taxiing because they come in all at the same time from different directions):

I had a collision on runway using your mission, somewhere in the middle of the landings, a taxiing single engine hit a big bird. Given the number of planes in the pattern, it's a miracle that there was only one

It's kinda frustrating to see how you managed to park that many planes, and on my first try a single one is unable to park without hitting that antiblast pen ! Is it possible to forbid this landing QFU in FMB maybe ?

I wish it was!
I had so much trouble getting the taxi- and parking points right: at first the big birds showed exactly the same behaviour when coming in from the north.
I finally fixed that, and now the fighters do this when coming in from the west. All other directions are fine. When a dc10 or b17 uses the same strip it taxis and parks fine Confusedhock:
We still have many IL2 mysteries to unravel.. :?

I have found with my complex airfield at Mingladon, Burma on my Thailand map..... some planes land and depending upon their size and subsequent landing roll...they get confused and cannot park correctly, whereas another type of plane which rolls shorter or further has no problem. It is then best to use certain runways for fighters and designate another strip for bombers (for landing purposes).

Too bad we cannot tell the AI which runway to use for which plane type..

that is what the mission builder has to do....he assigns the landing waypoints to whichever icon

Yes, that is an option. However, when you are building a campaign it is impossible to remember which type of aircraft has to use which runway for every airfield.. Sad
For Midway I tesetd the most obviuos direction (from where the Japanese fleet historically was), but sometimes maps are used as standin for theatres we don't have a map for yet (especially true for the Pacific).
Furthermore I assumed the B17's would need a longer runway than the fighters, but the test above seems to show just the opposite :?:

Is there anyway of manipulating the actors.static file to reduce the amount of trees ?? I see several entries in there for trees/palms but deleting any of them stops the landscape detail from loading fully ??

get map modding tools .... run your FMB in unlocked mode ( not FMB+ but unlocked !) delete all that you need and save file . Do read tool's readme carefully before any actions .

I deleted a couple of hundred trees from mine and created a new static file. You'd never notice the difference. Repositioned and tidied up a few other things to my own preference too. You must have Rone's Hangar Mod #1 installed for it to work though. You can get it here:

Great stuff Bee - saved me a job!

Will download it tomorrow - I had a go at the openFMB but couldnt get my head round it fully - perhaps try again on something else.

Thanks
