How to manage MODS in IL-2 1946?
#1

Hello,

I installed UU A.A and all possible Mods from AAA (and missions from M4T) and now the game takes 4 minutes to load!
Ok the result is extraordinary compared tot he original IL-2 1946 game, but I my PC configuration is not powerful enough to run it, so I need tu cut down on mods.
Though I'm surprised the game starts with my basic laptop PC and integrated video Intel chipset ...

Question: how can I manage which mods to deactivate (not suppress, just deactivate) and which ones to chose? Is there any utility? Becaseu I have dozens of mods and chosing and testing would take a long time.

Which AAA Mods in general take the most CPU loadout?

Good day.

I'm not sure what you mean by "not supress, just deactivate", aren't they both the same thing? Anyways, I just tested a few things and it appears as though you cannot remove any aircraft from the mods folder or you will face a 60% loading error. This should be easily solved by reinstalling the AC Installer but I would not recommend it.

All other mods can easily be disabled using the follwing methods:

1)Simply change the name of the mod in the mods folder, for example place a - in front of the name. This should stop the mod from loading when you start the game.

2)You could set up another folder, on the desktop for example. When you want to disable a mod, cut and paste it into this folder.

I haven't done extensive testing so I don't know if these methods are fool-proof but it should work so long as you dont delete a mod which is connected to another mod somehow.

mavyalex, decide which mods you seldom or never will use and remove them.
(If you play online in what some consider "full real" servers forget all of this, you will become incompatible.)

You can remove several new slot planes by running their uninstall program but if you try the minus sign in front of them, the game crashes.

The many new cockpits, while really good, are very large files, not flying the plane, move the cockpits out of the game.

I have 1.93 gigs of cockpits in a backup folder, one of those, the Cockpits_BF_ 109_Mod is 614 MB, don't fly 109s, take it out.

Skins and Missions can become large files too, over time. If you have been collecting skins and missions, you may be able to store some of them out of the game to decrease your load time.

Unfortunately, choosing and testing are necessary evils if you want to safely reduce your load time. You need to run the game after you remove something to make sure it still loads properly.

One thing I have found out is that, no matter how much stuff I take out, the first loadup of the day takes about 60 to 70 seconds but after that it takes about 30 seconds.
(That is down from 120 seconds before I took a hatchet to the UI 1.1 install.

I am sure load times vary greately depending on you computer power too, I have what is now a low, mid range machine.

There is no quick, easy way to reduce the load so be careful.
