How to make IL2 work smoothly?
#1

i am having trouble to get il2 to work smoothly... i am not sure if its related to the fact that i just installed HSFX 4.0. its not far off working smooth but seems to be jerking a bit (gets worse with higher level of ground detail/ clouds). however i have tried making graphics setting both much better and worse and it has no effect on the game! i have also tried putting stuff like water to 1 instead of 3 and that still makes no difference! i am really lost. so at the moment i am assuming it might be something to do with the MOD. any ideas? i am so desperate to get IL2 working again!

P.S. just checked out the Channel map by Cannon and OH MY WORD, HOLY COW!!! such a shame i cant enjoy it at the moment Sad please help.

i've tried tweaking conf.ini from here: http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.php/topic,2.0.html

thanks very much for trying to help but i'm afraid that makes no difference. the only way at the moment that i can get IL2 running silky smooth is by setting terrain detail (or whatever its called) to "very high" instead of "perfect" (that way all the trees and realistic water dissapears Sad ) i definatelly had IL2 running smoothly on my system before with full graphics settings!! maybe i should install a different nvidia driver? i have 9800GT

I have a gts 250, is very similar to 9800, and it works very well with the HSFX 4.11.

Hello, Bearcat

If you have a Dual-Core CPU, then use ProcessAffinityMask=2 (no semicolon at the front, no ";" symbol) in your conf.ini file.

I remember that the HSFX 4.1 runs smoother than the HSFX 4.0, though I don't remember the technical reasons why this is true. Perhaps it is the option to run the JSGME Mods Enabler without Perfect Texutures mod and have it set with Low Effects. You would need to get the HSFX 4.1 to test it.

Here is the link to my tech topic about all the basic relationships of the PC to IL-2, including...

Look for the section about Perfect Water and other settings.

It is possible to get the Perfect Water with the 9800GT, but you will probably have to sacrifice something else. As long as you keep the settings for Perfect Water, then you can reduce mods or other graphics settings to be able to keep Perfect Water.

Once you get your system to run IL-2 the way you want, be sure to keep all your configuration. I used to make screenshots of the IL-2 Setup, NVIDIA Control Panel, and the conf.ini because it is the clearest way to preserve the knowledge of those settings.
