Fixing the IAR-81C Fighter (the most neglected plane..)
#1

The IAR-81C Heavy fighter could use some fixing.

It carries a bomb rack around for no apparent reason. Most did not have one. The oil cooler under the nose is different on this particular plane, while the Gunsight was also somewhat different in real life and I have photos to show that. (Hopefully this is not too hard to repair/Mod)

1)

First the oil cooler under the nose needs to be readjusted as it was different here then in the other versions. Then the bomb rack needs to be removed as it was not standard equipment and not carried when this plane clashed with B-24's & P38's in the summer and fall of 1943/1944.

2) The second thing is the special type of reflector-sight it used

Pictures from the "Tidal-Wave" assault on the oil fields in August 1943 show gunsight footage of the IAR-81C

The current gunsight looks like this: -
can we change it?

Finally the plane had an automated fire extinguisher and the instrument for it that would light up. It is the white round device on the right hand side of the instrument panel labeled in the middle "Extinctor Automat" (Automatic extinguisher)

Perhaps we could make it work ... Wink

I'm with you about the carburettor filter aspect. It should look somehow like this: http://www.cartula.ro/forum/post-a359-.html (the pictures are taken from a very interesting and comprehensive topic about the IAR 80/81 series fighters that you can find here: http://www.cartula.ro/forum/IAR80-81-Wa ... -t243.html). Also, the windscreen needs some repairs (externally). Here is how the windscreen looked like from the outside on the real IAR 80: http://www.cartula.ro/forum/post-a357-.html
Now, this is how the windscreen looks in-game:

http://img87.imageshack.us/i/04092010191849.jpg/

http://img299.imageshack.us/i/07092010211323.jpg/
And, in my opinion, the canopy looks flat in its forward side (very far from how the real plane looked like). And in this regard I think we should seek JapanCat's help (after all the miracles he did with the 109s)

About the automatic fire extinguisher: I do not think that the fire extinguisher on the IAR 80 was a truly ”automatic” one. Here (http://www.cartula.ro/forum/post-a330-.html) you have a picture that shows the command rod of the fire extinguisher on the right side of the cockpit. I haven't found any type of information about the way in which a pilot had to activate the fire extinguisher when confronted with an engine fire (not even in Dan Antoniu's ”Vanatorul IAR-80. Istoria unui erou necunoscut” book).
As far as I know, the IAR 80 has a functional fire extinguisher in-game. You just have to assign a key to the ”Fire-extinguisher” command in the ”Controls” section. I did it and it saved my arse several times when my plane was hit by enemy fire and I had to deal with a burning engine.

Now, the gunsight problem: I think this cockpit repaint from Tyrl could help: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7424.0.html. It might not be perfect, but still... it is a starting point.
