Unexplained lines in shallow water & reefs
#1

The following pictures basically illustrate my problem.

Water texture (Solid color so I know it is not causing the problem):

Lines on the reefs at Yap from my Western Carolines map:

Same thing at Kwajalein on the new Marshalls map using the same textures:

Why are there lines? In mymap_c there are no visible lines, no matter how much I smooth and blur the reefs. Has anyone found a good way to get around this problem? It practically ruins the look of the entire Marshall Islands map since there are so many reefs.

I've seen it on quite a few maps. I think it's caused by the edge of the land textures protruding out into the sea. Remember, each map_T pixel is 200m x 200m, so the coast often cuts through them.
Don't know what can be done about it though.

This may be due to the way map_C file renders depth (grayscale tones).
Sharp gray transitions at these points in map_C or compression artifacts ?

Most, if not all, of what you are seeing is caused by settings in your conf.ini file and your video card.
It has to do with dithering, antialiasing transparency and ansiostropic blending.
