P-51D-5NT without dorsal fin - gbollin - 08.01.2008
I was wondering if we could get an early P-51D Mustang. The Factory did not install the Dorsal fin
on Mustangs untill the P-51D10. So I was wondering if the tail of P-51B or C could be added to the
P-51D-5NT?

B25J?? The nose on that is mostly glass anyway u sure u don't mean B25G/H?
- Jaypack44 - 08.01.2008
no, he means -J, as in a solid-nosed one.
BTW, I agree with both the above requests...

Would be fitting, considering how the poor wee bugger fly's...
+1

yes i meant the B-25J, and the C model as well for good measure.

All done
3 Squadron RAAF over Italy
This removes the dorsal fin from all D5 models as the dorsal fin was added from the D10 onwards. This change doesn't affect the D20 as it uses a separate model.
I'll post this to Mr Jolly for checking

Somethin's odd lookin'. Almost looks like the tail is too long. Effect of the removed dorsal fairing I presume?
- GentleKiller - 08.01.2008
what is the dorfal fin? i dont get it  :?

Actually it should be called the fin fairing. Like in this picture:
You see that the first and last P-51D have the fairing, but the third one doesnt. It was added to later model P-51D's and some RAF Mustang III's to aid in yaw stability at higher speeds.

allright, thanks for the info

Hi Skunkmeister
The tail is exactly the same as the normal one except the fin is missing. Its just the angle of the pic above which makes it look longer. Try these ones...
I've had a look at making a solid nose J but unfortunately there's no solid J length nose I can graft on. This would mean making a 3d model of the new nose section to graft on and this is outside of my abilities. Sorry guys. Just to make you feel really terrible though, I've added these great pics from FS2004 of what you'll be missing out on....
