Ok, I see now. I hope you are keeping all of your remodelled files safe in case a way to import meshes is discovered. That would give you a great head start on P47 cockpit v3. Smile

bump bump...anything new?

- poncho - 05.05.2008

I have added ring sights to the P47_D10, D22, and D27. I have tested them to make sure the sight lines are correct.

I am trying to iron out a small texture issue, but hope to have the finalized gunsight mod up by the end of the week. I will post some screenshots later.

When that is done, I will direct my efforts to the rest of the cockpit.

poncho...thank you so much for the update. I cannot wait to see the finished product. But for now I will settle for the new sites.

Here here, I know there are many, mnay Jug jocks who can't wait to see this pit. Thanks Poncho!

- FA_Diablo - 05.05.2008

hmmm ok..let's presumptious here Chris....think we can convince them to add the P-47M and N? Then you would see one really really really happy Jug jock. of course that would require some Fm tweaking, but these are new aircraft. LOL

OK I have an assignment for you guys.

While I was editing the sighting post, it occurred to me that it should be possible to replace the cowl profile seen from P47 cockpit view with a better quality one from a different plane. Idea This would only affect the cowl appearance from inside of the pit.

I would appreciate some input on other planes that have cockpit view cowls that appear correct for the Jug. Without looking, I bet some of the Grumman A/C are close but I'm open to any suggestion. Smile

poncho...interesting thought but i'm not sure any others would match very well. What about a screen shot in externals at a proper angle to get a better look? Just a thought. i'm not sure it would work. Undestand what i'm saying?

I'll have a look and see what I can come up with Poncho.
Diablo. I would love an M or N but honestly the only thing I really want after the new pit is complete is a fix for the damn 1 shot engine kill problem. And I'm pretty sure that's not even going to be discussed here.
Given a choice between M and N, I'd take the N since I'm a PTO guy. Tongue

I think that I've gotten everything done with the sights that I wanted to. Someone once said the the ring sights were probably more trouble than they were worth, that may be so but I felt like they were needed to make this project complete. I have one small issue to work out with the multinational P47-D27 and the sight mod will no longer be a beta. As for the cowl idea- it was just a thought. There is a lot of cockpit work to do first.

Looking good Poncho-
Question: Will the ring and bead mod be fully functional? It will be great to have a backup sight when the inevitable oil smear completely blocks my view of the reflector sight! Tongue
As far as an alternate cowl view, F4U gets my vote. It's not perfect, but it is an order of magnitude better than the existing P-47 cowl. I never even realized how porked that cowl on the Jug is until tonight.
My poor P-47. Sad

Poncho strikes again! Well done mate!

Looking really good. You are almost complete in fixing the one single biggest killer of the jug.

To help with the search, the pics below were captured from youtube of the bubbletop.

An observation from the "over the shoulder" views, it looks as though the ironsight center needs to be lifted to be horizontally align with the reflector piper.

There is a damn lot of fuselage before you get to the cowl on the jug. Confusedhock:

The pics also show how much the pilots head moves up and down under g forces. Or it could just be that the views are of different height pilots. Still, it shows how much the eye level can vary.

(P.S. Almost done changing a S@#tload of phillips screw heads over to slotted. )

Chris...I'm with you. I was just dreaming again. I can not wait to see a new pit for my beloved Jug. We have waited so very long for this. You know I don't ahve much of a problem with the 1 shot kill of the engine...what I hate is the 1 shot kill of taking my tail off. I'm a PTO guy myself as is my squad. If we were able to get one i would prefer the N too. Almost as fast as an M, rolls better and enough fuel ( though I never need it ) to fly around the world...LOL Oh yeah...can I say API and APIT?

Great work with the ring and bead.

Now if only we could have an official smoke mod for the guns...

The ring sights are fully functional in the sense that the ring and the bead will sight your target correctly and the ring sight will remain functional after the reflector sight is damaged. I will hold off on the cowl idea for a while, it is certainly not the biggest problem. My issues with the existing cowl are the lack of roundness of course, but I also feel like the cowl flaps are mounted too far forward if memory serves.

Taurus good to hear from you. Are you sure that those screws shouldn't be allen heads?
