Perhaps we should start some form of team. Team Pacific.
We could all share knowledge and work as one big team to complete the PTO. There are so many maps left to be made, too many for single persons to take on, so team work would be essential.
So far, Cheech has volunteered and is currently helping with the Guadalcanal portion of my map (I guess its
our map now...)
Here is a list of maps I think we could all work on, with all our pooled knowledge and efforts:
Luzon / Leyte Gulf
Bougainville to Rabaul/Kavieng
Darwin/Timor
to name a few.

The important upper half of New Guinea?
We got soooo screwed on the PNG map.
I'd be willing to help. I dont have time to actually make things. But what I do have is gigs and gigs of US national archive data in the form of movies, film, reels of guncamera, photos, mircofilm, books, pdf's dvd's, diaries, letters home etc.
Best I can do is historical support and beta testing. =) (if thats even needed)
The maps you list would be great to have. Your Slot map is just mind blowing.

Well after a little problem getting going I'm finally able to start enjoying...errrahhh testing[yeah that's it] Skunks masterpiece"The Slot"
All I can say is in my opinion this work is thee most important part of Pacific Fighters ever to be included in the sim!!!!!modded or not.
Mission builders,be afraid......be very very afraid!!!!!! You are about to get so absorbed creating historic Pacific missions that you better be carefull not to put your real jobs in jeopardy.
The scenery is incredible,I find myself hitting pause and looking around for min. at a time,at this rate it will take me 4yrs to fly this whole map!!
I am truely in awe of the work that has been done here,SkunkYou really have given the Pacific Theater a whole new life in this sim,BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

~S~ All,
After two days of texturing and adding the villages to the north coast of Guadalcanal, I wanted to post one screen shot of the area around Mt. Austin, and discuss an issue I have noted with regard to the "Woods" texture we are using for the jungle areas.
Here is the screen shot of Mt. Austin - note the unnatural, carpet-like texture lines evident in the jungle areas. I don't have a problem with large areas of dense jungle, but this particular issue "bugs me".
I looked at the default "Woods" tiles on the jungle areas on the default Guadalcanal map, and noted that there is definitely a difference, which is quite evident in the shots below.
Default Guadalcanal jungle area
The_Slot Jungle areas.
Even though the default texture is repetitive, it appears more natural, especially when viewed from altitude.
Before I got too far down the texturing road, I wanted to show you guys this, and get your feedback.

I'm going to try something right now Cheech...I think I know what the problem is.
EDIT: Its the underlying texture. If you open up the Burma map(which is where I got this texture from) you will see the same carpet like effect. And actually, you can see it in your default Guadalcanal shot as well, its just not as pronounced as it is with the other texture.
In the load.ini for the map I left the original Guadalcanal tree texture (there is a ; in front of it) just swap the ; from one line to the other and reload the map.

I've been doing a bit of work on creating a Darwin map (mostly for Scramble/intercept missions) and would certainly like contribute to this section of the conflict.
Cheers, Neil

Great job Skunk; that did the trick! I actually prefer the darker green color of the Burma textures, but that unnatural "carpet-like" pattern it causes is a liability.
I have all the villages in on the north coast of Guadalcanal and will continue the texturing. Will get an updated version of the map to you in a few days.

I agree about the obvious reptition of the tree textures, too. That is more the problem for me rather than the amount of it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next Skunk. Take your time though - you must be working hard on this.
Like this one, you mean Tater? This was actually the first shot I took but I liked the other one more. Must grab some more PTO skins.

hey FSM ..... care to give modding a try?
i've lost my address data base so please send me a mail

Meister, I can lend a hand populating villages too, if you agree just say where. Some more photos with inhabited places would be handy...
